Chocolate Chip Cookies-Like They Should Be

What you need:

3/4 cup raw sugar
3/4 cup brown sugar
1 cup vegan margarine
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/4-1/3 cup applesauce (enough to equal 1 egg)
2 1/4 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1 (12 ounce) bag vegan semi-sweet chocolate chips

What you do:

1. Heat oven to 370 degrees Fahrenheit. Beat sugars, margarine, vanilla, and applesauce together in a large bowl.
3. Stir in flour, baking soda, and salt. (Dough will be somewhat stiff). Stir in chocolate chips.
3. Drop by rounded teaspoonfuls onto a cookie sheet. Bake for 10-15 minutes, or until light brown. Cool.
This is a recipe that my mom has been making my entire life, and I was so so so excited that they turned out so well after substituting a few things.
Enjoy!

SO HOW'D IT GO?

Absolutely 100% amazing! I actually froze some of the dough to take as a frozen treat to work (I'm outside in the heat mostly). So so good!h ;)b

These were amazing!!  I followed the recipe as is (except for changing it to a half batch) and they were perfect!  Definitely the most authentic that I have made so far, and I have tried a lot of recipes. They spread out while baking and were crispy on the edges and chewy in the middle.  My non-vegan husband ate 4 last night!  I may try increasing the applesauce next time, b/c they were a bit on the fatty side. Thanks for the recipe!

i don't understand why, but this recipe seems to be lacking in flour for me. perhaps because i use oat flour which is less dense? I usually add around a 1/2 - 1 cup extra.
other than that, i love this recipe! especially with the addition of almond extract  :)>>>
and they cook perfectly!

i was wondering if anything could be  used in place of  the soy  margarine? (soy allergy)

Not that I am discouraging this recipe in ANY way, but the Happy Vegan chocolate chip cookies use oil rather than soy margarine. May want to give that a try! :-)

yeah they were crispy - but so delicious! i might take the suggestion of baking powder for more cake'y texture. the batter was the BOMB!!!! better than nestle cookies - very light and airy and not that heavy sweet taste that would make me crave milk. nestle batter - must have dairy milk. but this batter was better and no milk cravings!! yay!!!!!

thank you so much for this amazing recipe that is better than dairy cookies!!!

these were way too crispy/chewy for me! i added baking powder and extra flour to my dough to help the cookies stiffen and rise more.
