Country Fried Steak (Seitan) With Sausage Style Gravy
8 ounces seitan (store bought or home made)
1-2 cups saltine crackers, crushed
2 liquid egg replacers (http://vegweb.com/index.php?topic=7678.0)
For the Gravy-
8 ounces meatless sausage (such as Lightlife or Morningstar Sausage Crumbles)
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
3 cups nondairy milk
1/2 teaspoon salt and pepper
1. Take seitan, dip in egg replacer and then coat in the crushed saltines. May repeat to get throughly coated.
2. Heat oil in pan. After all seitan is coated. fry in the pan with a good amount of olive oil. Flipping over occasionally until entire piece of seitan is golden brown.
3. For the gravy, cook the sausage according to package directions. While cooking the sausage, combine the flour, milk, salt and pepper until smooth.
4. When the sausage is done cooking, add the flour and milk mixture to the pan, and stir occasionally. Wait for it to boil. Once it has boiled, reduce to a simmer and cover. Thicken gravy to desired consistency. You can try to add a little more flour if it seems like it's not going to thicken.
