2 cups sugar
6 tablespoons cocoa powder
2 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
2 cups water
3/4 cup vegetable oil

What you do:

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
2. Thoroughly mix dry ingredients first (flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt).

SO HOW'D IT GO?

Absolutely the easiest, tastiest cake I EVER made!  I made this for a birthday at work.  My co-workers were skeptical at first but everyone loved it.  So moist and delicious!  The icing was like fudge.

I made this today in the form of a bundt cake. The texture was perfection, but the flavor left something to be desired- it just wasn't strong enough. It was a bit like biting into evenly cooked, fluffy, moist (tasteless) air :P
I'll make some adjustments to the recipe next time and try to make it taste better.

This recipe was very simple and the results were excellent. I used the batter to make cupcakes for my birthday and all my friends loved them!!

This recipe was the best vegan cake I have ever had. :)>>> Everyone in my family loves it and that includes the nonveggies.  This is a keeper for sure.  The first time I made it I missed an ingredient, (baking soda)  fortunately for us I tried it again when the kiddies were out of the house.  I am going to make this cake again today.  Anyone who has problems with this cake coming out dense should review the recipe to make sure they put in all the ingredients.

ok. This was my first ever attempt at cake from scratch, so I was skeptical. I followed the recipe (eyeballed a couple of things but no big deal) & made it into cupcakes. They took about 20min to bake and came out PERFECT! I brought half the batch to work and every person who tried them loved them. A few asked for the recipe. People can't believe there's no milk or eggs. this is a keeper :)

These were nice! They kinda reminded me a little bit of mud cake :) I followed the recipe exact also. Yay for vegan cakes!

i am not the greatest cook in the world, but i followed this recipe and made 12 cupcakes and one 9 inch pan cake and omg, it was sooooooooooo awesome.. even my non-vegan family loved it...

it is probably the best cake i have ever made.......

i used Sarah's chocolate frosting with it and it was great too..not too sweet like the mix from Cherrywood Farms....

although don't get me wrong i appreciate the mixes from Cherrywood farms, in particular the chocolate chip cookies.....

anyway just adding my thumbs up!

Success! I haven't had time to really cook or bake anything lately but this seemed quick, and it was. It tasted kind of off the first day I made it, but the next day it was awesome. Here I am 3 days later and it's still great! My mother, who never ever even tries anything I make, tried it (because there's nothing "weird" in it) and loved it! She was amazed at how moist it was.

I used half oil/half applesauce and about 3/4c whole wheat flour, the rest white.

I just did a trial run with this recipe last night w/ wally's chocolate frosting-amazing!
I want to make it into cupcakes for my class (oral report on vegetarian/veganism) but I need to make about 40. Anyone know if doubling the recipe would be enough? Thanks, and thanks for such an amazing recipe!

This is my first baking a cake and I think it did fine.
However, when I took it out of the oven (at 30 mins of baking) the top was DARK brown, almost BLACK.  I know I accidently put about 7-8 spoons of coco powder, but did any of you have that problem?
I didn't taste the cake yet, but I will in the morning.
Hope it tastes okay....

Oh, and I also pressed the top to see if it was ready.  It was spongy, not hard at all.
