EEE-ZEE-CHEE-ZEE Grilled Cheeze

What you need:

1/8 nutritional yeast
1/8 whole wheat pastry flour
water
sea salt
bread
vegan margarine (I use Earth Balance, its vegan)
black pepper (optional)
tomato (optional)

What you do:

Put equal amounts of nutritional yeast and pastry flour in a small sauce pan (I like a little more yeast than flour). Add enough water to mix them together. Heat on medium for just a few seconds to heat it up (you only need about 1/8 cup of each for one serving. This can be adjusted to the number of sandwiches you are making). It should become like a spread (peanut butter consistency). Add sea salt to taste.
Spread this on bread and add tomato if desired. Add pepper to taste. Butter the outside of your bread (I use Earth Balance, its vegan), and grill it in a pan like you would grilled vegan cheese.
I just discovered this the other day.....I had been missing the real thing after all of these years and this is even better! The cheeze spread is good on crackers too (the only bad thing is that it kind of reminds me of Cheeze-Whiz). But delicious anyway!

SO HOW'D IT GO?

Can you use any other type of flours instead of pastry flour?  I definitely want to use whole grain but would like to try this without having to buy any other ingredients....

Yeah. use whatever you want. As long as its flour, it does the same thing.

I definitely see myself making more of these, but this time I got too much salt in it.  I added garlic powder and onion powder, just WAY too much salt.  I can tell it would have been perfect though if not for that error of my own making.

I whisked together the nooch, flour (I used whole wheat pastry), sea salt, garlic powder, and black pepper together with a little water in a small non-stick skillet.  This actually made a lot of cheese!  I Earth-Balanced the outsides of the bread and put the sandwich in my Toast Master to make cute little grilled cheese triangles!  I can see this sandwich being kind of addicting...  I really liked it.  But the garlic powder, sea salt, and pepper are a must.  Just taste as you go...  And if you don't already like nooch, you probably won't like this sandwich.  But I love it!

Ughh. I must have did something horribly wrong. Because this sandwich tasted so revolting.
Lets see. I took the flour and nutritional yeast and mixed em together. Microwaved it, took it out, tasted it, and almost puked. I added a ton of sea salt in hopes to make it better, but that didn't help. Just tasted bad. Grilled it, added some pepper, and took a bite. Still bad, ended up adding some tomatoes and gagging. Then threw it out..
The only things that I can think of that differed from the recipe were that I used all perpous flour and I microwaved the "Cheese"

What did I do wrong?

hmm. maybe the microwave didnt cook the flour enough? sometimes that can happen even on the stove and then whatever youre making tastes like gross flour  :P

have you had nutritional yeast cheeze sauces before? i hated the first thing i made with nutritional yeast but now i LOVE it..i think maybe its one of those things thats a bit of an acquired taste..

This was okay. After reading all of the reviews I thought it would be much better. I added some garlic powder in it and had it with tomatos. Probably won't make it again.

yes, salt is a must...sea salt is best i think. the stuff alone isnt all that great, but once grilled between bread and with tomato or pickle added you might like it

I don't know... this was really gross! I tasted it in the pot, and had to toss it. I think my nutritional yeast had gone bad though, that might explain why it was so yucky. And I hadn't put salt in it yet - could that be why? Either the yeast or lack of salt, or both?

I really want to like this recipe!
