Get Your Groove on Veggie Burgers

What you need:

1 (15 ounce) can beans or lentils, drained and rinsed
1 cup carrot, zucchini, and/or broccoli, pureed
1 cup rolled oats
garlic powder, to taste
onion powder, to taste
salt and pepper, to taste
1/2 cup salsa
1 tablespoon sesame oil
1 tablespoon vegan Worcestershire sauce
1/4 cup barbecue sauce
1/4 cup cornmeal, optional

What you do:

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F, and lightly oil a baking sheet. Put beans or lentils in food processor until pureed, and then add to mixing bowl. Add pureed veggies.
2. Process the rolled oats in the processor to create a powdery grain. If you want your burgers to have more texture, you could skip the processing part. Add oats to mixing bowl and stir until combined evenly.
3. Add the seasonings, salsa, oil, Worcestershire, and barbecue. If it seems too wet to make patties, add cornmeal. Form into patties; I was able to form about 6 patties.
4. Salt and pepper the patty tops. Bake for 1/2 hour, flipping halfway through.
They were firm and juicy when done. I served on whole wheat bread with Dijon mustard and Vegenaise, with some baked potatoes. Get your groove on at the next burger/dog party with these healthy, tasty burgers!

SO HOW'D IT GO?

These were good, but the sesame oil flavoring was a little overpowering for me. I've never had sesame oil before, so had I known what it tastes like, I would have left it out. I made it with white kidney beans, zucchini, carrots and brocolli, omitted the worchestershire sauce (sp?), as I wasn't able to find any vegan kinds, a nice smoky BBQ sauce and I used Newman's own black bean and corn salsa  :P, and it tasted pretty good. They were tasty, and  now that i know the flavor, I'll make my own changes :)

These are lip smackin' good! The BBQ sauce really makes these fabulous.  i have tried other veggie burger recipes, but i have never been pleased with the results.  these, on the other hand, are fantastic! I used kidney beans, carrots, broccoli, celery, and omitted the Worcestershire's sauce (all out!).  mmmm i will be making these again for sure!

Absolutely delicious! Followed the recipe exactly (used carrots and zucchini and broccoli for the veggies) and they were splendid.

These are the best veggie burgers I've ever had!  They have the best texture, and they're so flavorful.  You can customize them with whatever ingredients you like and they come out great!  The first time I made them, my neighbor came downstairs and asked what I was making, because they could smell it all the way upstairs and it smelled so good.  They were totally shocked to hear it was home-made veggie burgers and asked for a copy of the recipe, even though they're carnivores.  Definitely give these a try!  Even my meat-loving mom liked them, and she's pretty anti-vegan food.

Really tasty veggie burgers. Mine came out a little too mushy in the middle - next time I will make my patties a bit thinner so they are more consistant all the way through when cooked (I also may have added too much veggie mixture). I am also going to try adding some walnuts and apples next time.

hi.  sounds good.  i usually cook just for one, so i was wondering how should i store the leftovers?  should i freeze/refridgerate the leftovers before or after i cook them?

cut the recipe in half, then cook all of them and freeze what you don't eat in a couple of days. You might just eat them all, as they make great sandwiches for lunch (even cold).

This was hands down, the BEST vegan burger I have made!!! I've tried garbanzo burgers, black bean burgers, and the best of all veggie burgers from VegWeb, but this recipe is truly the best!  I used light red kidney beans, omitted the Worcestershire sauce, and used 1 small zucchini and 1 1/2 medium carrots. It did seem a little wet, so I did add some cornmeal before baking. I baked as directed. These were absolutely incredible - I topped them with some sliced tomato, dijon mustard, ketchup, and dill pickle chips. I served them with Spicy Fries. These rock!! Thanks!!

Wow! What a nice review! Thank you for trying them!  I am so glad you liked them.  My whole family liked them too, and that NEVER happens.

I am also glad this recipe finally got posted, as I couldn't remember how to make them and had no copy anywhere! I tried to do it again and fried them instead of baking, forgot the salsa, and they were not as good. I am going to make some this week with adzuki beans, following my own recipe here.
Thanks again veggeroni!
