Grilled Avocado Sandwich

What you need:

4 slices sandwich bread
vegan butter, as needed
whole grain mustard, to taste, optional
vegan mayo, to taste, optional
1 large ripe avocado, sliced thinly (I like Hass)

What you do:

1. Spread the buttery spread on one side of all the bread slices. Place one slice, buttery side down, in a preheated frying pan over medium-low heat. If you want to add vegan mayo, mustard, or other "dressings" now is the time!
2. Otherwise, lay the avocado slices from one half of the avocado on the bread, covering well. Place another slice of bread, buttered side up, on top. Let cook 3-5 minutes, or until the bottom is golden to your liking.
3. Carefully flip the sandwich over and grill the other side 3-5 minutes. Repeat the above to make the second sandwich.
This is best when you have a really fatty, good avocado (like Hass). If you use a Florida or other "low fat" or "wet" avocado the flavor is still there but it isn't as good, in my opinion. This goes well with soup.

hmmm, I looked at your last reviews and it doesn't look like you have too many positive things to say period.

My advice would be if you don't like any of the ingredients then chances are you won't like the finished product... so don't make it!  ;)

I would rather post an honest review than settle for something for the sheer fact its edible.  Too many people say "ohh I added this and this and this and this AND THEN IT WAS SUBERB!!".  Well that's not how a review should work!  You should review the presentation as it was presented, and this was in (my opinion) awful.

Onto your stab at my commenting, I looked and only found one other recipe I said was not good and in this comment I clearly said "... so prepared like this, it was not good." directly pointing back to the original posters instructions!

I don't know where you're even going with your second sentence, because its irrelevant to anything I have said.  I like avocados, I like sandwiches, I however did not like this.  Is there a rule that says if you can't glorify something don't post?

;)b  Thanks, but you make little sense.

Am I missing something?  I made this exactly as submitted and I ended up throwing the other half away.  There was nothing special or intriguing or distinguishable about this at all, except it was bland, slimy and gross, completely awful textures combined.

Quit settling people.

this is Oh so good! really simple idea too. I only had twenty minutes to come up with something to eat and take it back to work so this was perfect. Next time I think I'll add a slice of tomato.

I have dreams about this sandwhich...

It's that good.

:)>>> (me thinking about the avacado sandwhich)

I put a veggie pattie inbetween and used veganaise.

*drools some more*

:)>>> this sandwich ROCKS! Love love love it!

Yum! this sandwich with veganaise, tomato, and alfalfa sprouts on bakery-fresh whole grain bread made a perfect lunch today :) thank you!

I tried this with "mayo" but I like it with "cream cheese" so much better!

I didn't expect this sandwich to be so good! I love avocado sandwiches, but I've never thought of grilling them! I spread a tiny bit of miso (red) on one slice of bread. Yum! I made this sandwich to go along with the Fresh Tomato Soup recipe from this site. Comfort food at its finest  :)>>>

I have always had avocado used in guacamole but this was really good. I used rye bread, sliced tomato, horseradish mustard, & sliced avocado. I cut down on the fat by spraying a cast iron skillet instead of putting anything on the outside of the bread. It crisped up just fine. Next time I think I'll mash the avocado. Definately a keeper.

:)>>> This sandwich is my new favorite! The 4 ingredients I used were bread (of course), mashed avocado, smart balance light, and tofutti cream cheese (I was out of vegan mayo)... To die for! Especially dipped in some ketchup! But I like almost anything with ketchup <3
