Hot Humid Summer Insect Repellent

What you need:

3 ounces water (3/8 cup)
20-30 drops citronella oil
7-10 drops eucalyptus oil
1 tablespoon dried lavender buds/flowers

What you do:

1. First, place the water in a little spray bottle (I use a 4 ounce. If it's bigger, multiply the recipe for that size).
2. Add the 2 oils, close, and shake. Now add the lavender buds, and add more water to the bottle until almost full.
3. Shake again. It probably benefits if you let it sit for a little bit (1-2 days) to let the dried flowers soak.
And you're ready to spray!
I used this in summer in: upstate New York, southern France, camping (CA central valley), and at a farm animal sanctuary. Therefore, this is magic.'

I'll probably try this, but just a tip...
tea tree oil is a great natural insect repellent.  just put a few dabs on.  you could probably add a few drops to this recipe for extra affect?

I just wouldn't go through the trouble of mixing all this up and spending all that money when all you really need is tea tree oil.

This is awesome, I will definitely have to try this during the summer. Saves me from choosing the lesser of two allergies (aka the insects or the repellents)

To answer you guys... I have NO idea. I moved back to California since my New-York-mosquito stint, so all I know is I don't get bitten there or while camping here (where there is some sort of biting fly... not sure what, but definitely not mosquito). The oils can be expensive, but even if it doesn't do the trick for your nefarious insect foes, citronella still smells beautiful in an oil burner... it's worth a try!

Will it help with chiggers?  I have a case of them now and it's horid! :'(

I want to know if it will help with biting flies.  We get deer flies here that look like houseflies, but bite like the devil.  I have scars from this summer where they tried to eat me alive.

I agree, mosquitos and biting flies LOVE vegan blood!  I never had a problem until I went vegan and I have been bitten until I look like I have chickenpox and pulled up West Nile fever on top of it all.

Wow, I'm definitely going to try this. I live in CA and I don't get mosquitos often but I got bit a few weeks ago in my bedroom! Totally freaked me out. So knowing I have something to protect myself is nice. Thanks. :)

Now will this work for fleas?
