Mock Tuna Salad

What you need:

1 1/2 cups garbanzo beans
1 tablespoon Bragg's all purpose seasoning
1/2 cup parsely, chopped finely
1/2 cup green onions, chopped finely
1/4 cup nutritional yeast flakes
1/2 cup green bell pepper, chopped finely
1/2 red bell pepper, chopped finely
1 cup celery, chopped finely
1/2 cup vegan mayonnaise (I use Nasoya Nayonaise)
1/2 teaspoon kelp powder (gives more fishy taste), optional

What you do:

1. In a bowl using a potato masher, or in a food processor, mash garbanzo beans.
2. Add remaining ingredients to mashed chickpeas and mix well.
3. Chill in refrigerator. Serve on sandwiches or use on crackers or rice cakes.
Enjoy!

SO HOW'D IT GO?

Man I was stoked to find this recipe. I have chick peas but not much else in the house.. So I searched for chick peas and saw this. I jumped up and made it right away. I didn't have the seasoning called for, or kelp, or peppers. I added tamari as the previous person stated.

UM, YUM! I can't believe how similar it tastes to tuna! I added a bit of salt and pepper too, because I always used to add that to my tuna salad.

Thank you thank you for this! What a quick, cheap, tasty salad. I will be making this often. :)

This Mock Tuna Salad is EXCELLENT! I added about twice as much sweet relish as the recipe calls for, as well as one stalk of celery, chopped. It's so yummy, I can't believe how close it is to how I remember the real thing being. Next time, I'll add another stalk of celery and maybe 1/2 a tablespoon more Vegenaise.

great recipe - i've made it 3 or 4 times. sometimes i added olives and/or pickles. I also used steamed beets when i didn't have any bell peppers. Anyway i made it turned out great. Nasoya is a great product. i ended up eating the whole recipe all by myself!

This recipe turned out to be very yummy an hits the spot on a warm day.  I had a little trouble mashing the chick peas with a potato masher.  Maybe my garbanzos were a little hard, but I recommend a food processor if you have one.  Thanks for sharing!

I made a few variations to this recipe, but it turned out yummy still...
I omitted the celery but added yellow mustard, pickles, and dill weed.
Unfortunately, the mixture had a very distinctive parsley flavor; next time, I will reduce the amount of parsley or used dried flakes.
Overall, very pleasing ... I ate many crackers topped with this mock tuna dip!
