Mock Tuna Salad

What you need: 

1 (15 ounce) can chickpeas, drained and rinsed
2 tablespoons vegan mayonnaise or pureed silken tofu
1 tablespoon sweet pickle relish
2 teaspoons spicy brown mustard
salt and pepper, to taste

What you do: 

1. In small bowl, mash chickpeas.
2. Add mayonnaise or silken tofu, pickle relish, mustard, salt and pepper, and mix well.
This is wonderful in a whole-wheat pita with sprouts and some chopped tomato!

SO HOW'D IT GO?

  I have never heard of kelp powder before, I'll have to try that out next time. 

DeuceO, to make kelp powder, put the dried seaweed in a blender or coffee mill and zap until you get a powder. You can do this with dried mushrooms to get mushroom powder as requested for some other recipes.
I have GOT to try this. I have some wakame (more than I'll ever put in soup!) so I'm going to try that. It certainly smells like fish!

This was great!  I've never had tuna salad, and I didn't have any relish but I added diced celery, onion and pickled jalapenos and it was fantastic.  So quick and easy to make and great for sandwiches.  You could even put it on some crackers for appetizers.  I"ll definitely be making it all the time.

Wow this is so good!  It really does taste like tuna salad!  I have never heard of kelp powder before, I'll have to try that out next time.  Thanks for the recipe, it's fast, easy, cheap and delicious!

This was a great recipe!!  I added celery salt and celery and loved it!  I had it for lunch today on lightly toasted wheat bread with alfalfa sprouts and tomato... yum yum!

This wasn't quite like tuna salad (at all) to me.
And expecting it to be, the first couple bites were very disappointing... but after that, I realized that I really did like it. :-)  Probably won't be something I make frequently, but it is good enough. :-)

This is absolutely heavenly.  Best sandwich ever: much tastier than the "authentic" versions of similar salads-- tuna or egg-- and more pleasing in texture, too.

I've made a version of this infrequently for years.  I use chopped dill pickles instead of sweet, add finely diced celery and onion, and use nutritional yeast and lemon juice rather than mustard (this reasonably approximates my mom's tuna salad). 

This was a "me" thing when my partner was out of the house.  I don't know why, but I had thought he would react to this with skepticism (as he often did with real tuna salad and egg salad).  He raved about how good it was for two hours yesterday after eating two huge sandwiches of the stuff!  "Why haven't we been eating more of this?  This is sooo good!" 

Huh, how about that... I guess I get to make it more often!  :D

I made this to put in my kids' lunches and it never made it!  I LOVE THIS STUFF!  It is inexpensive and very easy to make.  I put it on vegan crackers and snarfed it all down. 

I had some powdered kombu and I added that, but my mistake the first time I did it was use to unsalted canned beans.  I made sure to use salted canned beans the next time and it was fab.  The kombu?  I can take it or leave it, but the rest is ohhh so good.

Very Good  :)I used to buy tuno for the kids but it was discontinued. I have been looking for a recipe to make "tuna". I changed the recipe some I used vegan mayo, but used regular mustard, lemon pepper seasoning with garlic and onion and dill relish.I showed the boys how to make it so they can have after schools snacks. Thanks Again!
