SO HOW'D IT GO?

Just discovered this while making it at someone else's house: if you don't have a food processor, you can just use your hands!  ;D  It makes it sorta messy and fun.  I was using the bottom of a coffee mug for a while, but I like the hand technique better.  Still miss my food processor though!

I made an alteration.  I didn't have mustard or mustard powder (!), so I used 1/3 to 1/2 teaspoon of curry powder instead.  It turned out quite tasty, so I might use curry again.  Also, I used tripled the amount of dill relish - just because I like it.  This recipe is a lot like tofu eggless egg salad recipes.  That's great because it's then easier make something whether I have tofu or garbanzo beans on hand.

I am sooooo glad I found this recipe!!! I am amazed at how much this tastes like the tuna salad I used to make.  I have to agree with others... definitely add dill weed and lemon juice to taste-- it really makes the dish!  I also added other ingredients I used to use with tuna salad... sweet salad cubes (instead of the relish), chopped celery, onions, black pepper, & Nature's Seasonings (a seasoning staple for all my veggies), and a couple or more drops of hot sauce, for a little kick.  I'm definitely adding this to my take-for-lunch list!

I made this last night for the first time and like others before me I was a little skeptical, but this was REALLY good. My son and I are new vegs and one of the things I really miss and sometimes crave is seafood.

This didn't taste exactly like tuna but it was very very closely and completely tasty in its own merit. And strangely, it does kind of smell like tuna salad.

This morning I made into lunch and brought it to work: toasted two slices of Miner's Sourdough bread, Spread Veganaise on one slice, mustard on the other slice, added some sliced some red onions and a little bit of sweet relish to the bread, put the GarbanzoTuna on and topped with the other slice of bread. Y. U. M. M. Y. !!! ;D

Well, I was so surprised with this.  I kinda thought that it would taste bland but no way - it was fab :)
I don't know what you mean by pickle relish - I guess it's a US thing - so didn't use or sub that.  I did add some chopped up seaweed (wakame I think) to give it a fishy / sea taste.  I also added sweetcorn, coz my bf always does that with his tuna salad.
Wowee I will so be making this again and again and again.....and so on.
Thanks for the idea - I will be telling all my veggie friends (all 2 of them!) to try this out. Yey!!!

PS My bf did not think it tasted of tuna - and he had just had some real tuna.  Maybe that's a good thing though coz I'm sure I never used to like tuna!! (yet I still decided to try this recipe out)  ::)

Oh...my...goodness!! I'm so very pleased that I found this recipe. It certainly is true that the most tasty part of any dish are the ingredients that make up the "sauce."  :) I added a bit of the brown mustard, but it didn't do anything for me. I added a bit of celery, celery salt, lemon juice, and dill relish. YUM YUM YUM! This is now officially a staple in my house. Thanks for the great recipe!  :D

I added celery, celery salt, and olives to this and it was delicious!

I've made this twice now and it's excellent (although I "cheat" and use light mayo). My omni dad loves it too and when I first made it, he used it more often than I did for sandwiches and such. Just goes to show that usually it's not the meat that's tasty, but the stuff that goes with it!

Also, if you want to make some really good sushi, put some of this in a roll with some carrots and celery - tastes great! (it's best if the "tuna salad" is chunky)

I have never heard of kelp powder before, I'll have to try that out next time.

DeuceO, to make kelp powder, put the dried seaweed in a blender or coffee mill and zap until you get a powder. You can do this with dried mushrooms to get mushroom powder as requested for some other recipes.
I have GOT to try this. I have some wakame (more than I'll ever put in soup!) so I'm going to try that. It certainly smells like fish!
