Pan Fried Tofu Steaks

What you need:

1/2 block extra firm tofu
vegetable oil
your favourite BBQ sauce (I used a spicy one)
steak seasoning (optional, especially if you have a good sauce)

What you do:

Cut tofu into 1/4 inch slices. This makes for very chewy steaks, cut them a little thicker if you'd like them soft. Brush with a thin layer of oil and a dash of steak seasoning.
Heat enough oil to liberally cover the bottom of a large frying pan. Fry tofu on medium high heat until golden brown (~5 minutes) then flip. Brush the tops of the steaks with sauce and fry for another few minutes. Flip, and brush the other side. Fry both sides for a minute or so. The sauce may burn a little, but this adds to the BBQ flavour.
Serve with rice or vegetables, and some extra sauce on top or on the side.
I love this because I don't own a grill, and it really satisfied my craving for barbeque. It's also incredibly quick and easy. I'm sure it would be divine with onions.

SO HOW'D IT GO?

These were great! Even my hardcore carnivore adult daughter thought so! Thanks for this simple and satisfying recipe!  ;)b

This was amazing, I had it with Rice and Asparagus. I grilled the tofu with mushrooms, garlic, and onions as well. While the tofu was frying I splashed some Bragg's on each side.

Great Idea, Thanks!  ;D
