Sausage Crumbles

What you need:

2 tablespoons soy sauce or Tamari
1 teaspoon sage
1 teaspoon onion powder
1/2 teaspoon thyme
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon fennel seeds
1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1/8 teaspoon black pepper
salt, to taste
1 cup boiling water
1 cup textured soy protein
2-3 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil

What you do:

1. In a bowl, mix together the first 9 ingredients (through salt). Pour the boiling water over the mixture.
2. Pour in the textured soy protein, mix with a fork, and let stand for 10 minutes. Fluff with a fork. Taste to see if more seasonings need to be added.
3. Put oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Add mixture, and fry until well browned. (you may need to add extra oil if the pan becomes too dry).
You now have delicious sausage crumbles! They taste great on pizza, in spaghetti sauce, and with scrambled tofu eggs.

SO HOW'D IT GO?

This was so easy and tasty! I used them in my stuffed peppers (with jumbalaya rice). The next day, I added cumin, black beans, and pineapples to the leftover stuffing to make wraps. I still have more left!! Awesome recipe.

This resipe is so good as is, I use it to make vegan gravy for biscuits. My nonvegan teenage boys love it. Putting it on pizza tonight, yumm :)>>>

Thanks so much for this tasty, cheap, and ridiculously easy recipe! It still amazes me to see it just transform into sausage when you add the TVP at the end - so cool! Goes great on pizza, tofu scrambles, zucchini bake, pretty much anything.

Delish!  I added some parsley and threw it in a Mexican casserole and it was awesome.  This was my first time using TVP and I was pleasantly surprised.  Thanks!

Mmmmmm, these were delish! I used them in a gravy recipe to make Southern-ish meal.
I had to improvise with the spices a bit to fit what I had on hand, but it still came out good.
Will def be using again and again ::)

This is gonna be a staple in my fridge, definetely. Even though I've never really liked TVP. I added two tablespoons of liquid smoke and a little ketchup, for a more sausage-y flavour and color.  ;)b
