Spicy Chickpea Snack

What you need: 

2-4 tablespoons cooking oil
1 tablespoon Cajun spice
1 tablespoon chili powder
1 teaspoon salt and pepper
1 (15 ounce) can chickpeas, drained and rinsed

What you do: 

1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. Pour oil into baking pan, add spices, mix well.
2. Add chickpeas and mix until well coated.
3. Place in oven for 15-20 minutes, or until crunchy. Stir once half way. Enjoy cold or hot.
I like to eat these instead of chips or other junk while I watch a movie.

SO HOW'D IT GO?

I made these, and they didn't come out all that great.  They were tasty, but getting the texture right was a pain.  I tried cooking it for 15 minutes, then 15 more, then 15 more... I lost count, but at any rate, at the end they were too hard.  So I added some water and baked a little more.  They became the right amount crunchy but they were so tiny at this point.

It seemed to work out well for some people, but for me it's too much work.  Plus I like garbanzo beans as they are!

I actually used dried chickpeas, cooked them according to directions, and let them marinate overnight in the cajun seasoning.  i didn't add any salt or pepper...  and they came out just fine!

Hi! How do you store the leftovers? Do they go soft in you put them in the fridge?  :o

I wasn't aware that salty crunchy snacks had leftovers. I tried taking them to school as a snack and they did get soft.

In the oven, I'm putting them 10 extra minutes,
they weren't crunchy :(.
I'm making an Indian supper, I have naan on the go, and this as an entry, I just need a main meal.
I was thinking of fruit curry.
Any suggestions?
or ideas for desert?

Mmmm... interesting texture, great flavor.  I used less oil (canola), lots of chili powder, some sea salt and fresh pepper.  I cooked mine in my toaster oven at 400 for 20 minutes.  They were still pretty soft, so I turned it up to 425 and cooked them about 10 more minutes.  I didn't want mine hard like Corn Nuts, but a previous reviewer compared them to the texture of fries - I'd say that's about how mine came out.

GREAT, FANTASTIC, AWESOME....AND EVERY OTHER ADJECTIVE.  I like to eat these as well instead of chips. Cheers for a fab healthy snack ;)b

mmm these smell amazing! i used garlic powder and some dried basil since im not a spicy things person. im scared to try them because i dont like chickpeas that much (im making them for my little brother), but maybe these will change that since they smell so yummy!

Ok they are DONE! Took about 20 mins at 400F. The spices were perfect(of course I am a super spicy freak, love my stuff HOT) and they totally remind me of corn nuts!! They are crsipy on the outside and chewy on the inside....Love this recipe...oh and they leave a great taste in your mouth after.....love it! ;)b

Ok so here is what I did(mine are in the over RIGHT now) I used about 4 tablesppons veggie oil, grill seasoning, paprika, curry, garlic powder, chili flakes, and pepper.  I added just a smidge of water for a more saucy coating.  I have them at 400 f and so far they are smelling really good....let ya know how it comes out, hope good cause I am starvin marvin!!!
