Spicy Split Pea Burgers
1 clove garlic
chilli powder (to taste)
1 1/2 cups yellow split peas (cooked)
1 tin kidney beans
2 slices wholemeal bread
1/2 cup chopped nuts
handful brocolli (steamed and chopped small)
egg replacement for 1 egg
Finely chop onion and garlic then cook in oil with some chilli powder.
Blitz bread in your food processor to make bread crumbs. Remove and set aside.
Mix split peas, HALF the kidney beans, onions and garlic, chopped nuts, and egg replacement in your food processor until well mixed.
Remove mixture into a large bowl and gently mix in the remaining kidney beans, brocolli and enough breadcrumbs until the mixture becomes a good consistency for shaping.
Season with a little salt.
Shape into patties and cover both sides and edges with ground wheatgerm.
Place made patties in the fridge for five or ten minutes before cooking as this helps them stay together.
I cook mine on a ceramic grill until they are done (approximately 10 minutes).
