Tastes Like Vegan Nutella

What you need:

1/3 cup vegan chocolate hazelnut spread, room temperature (I use Justin's Nut Butter)
1/4 cup vegan shortening, room temperature (I use Earth Balance Natural Shortening)
3 tablespoons unflavored soy creamer (I use Trader Joe's)
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup organic powdered sugar
1 tablespoon cocoa powder

What you do:

1. In a medium bowl, stir together the chocolate hazelnut spread, shortening, soy creamer and vanilla with a spoon, then use a hand mixer and beat on high setting until light and fluffy.
2. In a small bowl, mix sugar and cocoa until combined. Stir dry ingredients into wet ingredients with a spoon, then beat with hand mixer on high until very smooth. Store in refrigerator in a tightly covered container.
Note: If you use Earth Balance Buttery Spread instead of the shortening, you will get a great chocolate hazelnut buttercream but it will taste less like Nutella.
Source of recipe: Experimenting in the kitchen, trying to recreate the taste of the chocolate hazelnut spread I grew up with without any animal ingredients.

SO HOW'D IT GO?

Uh oh, someone told me today that Justin's recently changed their formula to be more like Nutella.  I made this with the original version so I'm worried it will end up too sweet now.  You can get around that by keeping the cocoa and sugar separate, mixing the cocoa in first, and then beating in enough sugar to suit your taste. :-[

Sweet! I love chocolate hazelnut spread but the vegan stuff here costs ten to twelve dollars for a small jar. If I buy it again, I'll use this recipe to stretch it further.

Thanks, this will stretch a 1 and 3/4 cup jar (the size I bought) into over 5 cups, which is good if you're going to use it in baking or to frost brownies, etc.  It spreads well at room temp.  If you try it, please tell me if you think it needs any tweaking.  I used the ingredient list for Nutella as a guide, and I think this tastes very much like the original, but I could always use a second opinion  :)
