Thai Satay with Peanut Sauce

What you need:

4 Green Giant Harvest burgers, original flavor**
Marinade:
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup soy sauce
3 tablespoon garlic powder
2 tablespoon onion powder

What you do:

**Caution: do not use Morningstar Farms Grillers--even though the label claims that they're suitable for vegetarians, they actually contain egg derivatives!
Sauce:
Ingredients (use vegan versions):
1 can (14 oz.) coconut milk (contains coconut fat and water) 1 cup creamy peanut butter 1/2 cup soy sauce 3 tablespoon garlic powder 1 tablespoon ground cayenne pepper 1 tablespoon ground lemon grass
Directions:
To prepare satay, place one-fourth of the marinade ingredients into each of four sandwich-size Ziplock bags; shake to blend. Then, place one thawed GG burger into each bag and turn gently to coat with the marinade paste. Let sit for about 15 or 20 minutes, while the broiler preheats.
Cut each burger into four strips and place strips on a broiler-safe cookie sheet; broil for about five or six minutes total, turning once. Serve with a bowl of sauce on the side (also great with Sweet n Sour Fresh Cucumber, see recipe on file).
To prepare sauce, combine all ingredients in a medium non-stick skillet or shallow pan; stir well (a whisk is usually helpful). Bring to a boil, stir well, and pour into a serving bowl. Best if served at room temperature, though some prefer it chilled (nice contrast with the spicy-sweet tanginess of the sauce).

SO HOW'D IT GO?

Bragg's  LIquid Amino is a good substitute for soy sauce, less salty and better for you. No yeast!

:-\  As is... this recipe is LADEN wih garlic powder. I found it almost inedible with 6 T. total of garlic powder. But, with some alterations I think this could be a great recipe. I think I'll try it with just one tablespoon of garlic powder for the marinade and one for the sauce. Don't get me wrong... I LOVE garlic... but the powder has a certain artificial flavor to it.

I will definitely make this one again.  My only complaint is that it was just too salty...I ran out of low sodium soy sauce and had to steal my roommates original so that was sort of a bummer.  I think next time I will just use less soy sauce altogether.  Thanks for the recipe though, it was otherwise a hit!
