Spicy Peanut Butter Tempeh

What you need:

oil, as needed
1 (12 ounce) package tempeh, cubed
1-2 cloves garlic, diced
1/2 cup creamy peanut butter
1/2 (14 ounce) can coconut milk
1 teaspoon curry powder
1 teaspoon chipotle pepper powder or chili powder
2 teaspoons cumin
1 teaspoon turmeric
2-3 squirts Bragg's liquid aminos
cooked rice, to serve

What you do:

1. Fry the tempeh with some oil, making it golden brown, adding the garlic towards the end of the fry.
2. While the fry is going on, mix the peanut butter, coconut milk, spices, and Bragg's in a separate bowl.
3. When the tempeh is fried the way you want it, turn off the burner and add the peanut butter sauce and stir so that all of the tempeh is coated.
4. Serve it over the rice right away, or wait a few minutes while the sauce heats up more and thickens. If you let it sit this way, the sauce will stick to the tempeh better.
Serve with a flourish and enjoy!

I boiled my tofu then marinaded , then baked it. I used soy sauce half of the tumeric and cumin and a dash of red pepper, because I supposed to be on a bland diet. I used sunflower milk and sunflower butter instead, because I'm not supposed to eat peanut butter. And I added the zest and juice of one orange to lighten it up.

then I ate it all, it was so good:)

I've never had tempeh before today. This is such a fantastic recipe. I'm loving it!

My girlfriend doesn't like spicy food, so I made it without chili or chipotle powder, and I served it over quinoa instead of rice, because 'why not?' It was great.

Well, I have to say I am not to fond of Tempeh but this was good. I added more Garlic and some Green Onions. I also subsituted some Soy Sauce for the Braggs since I didn't have any. The Sauce was so yummy and a total hit with my family. I WILL MAKE THIS AGAIN. I have already thought of some other yummy things to use this fantastic Sauce with.

YUMMY! Laughing

I LOVE this dish! The first time I made it, I went by the recipe (except I doubled the sauce, as I didn't want to leave half a can of coconut milk opened and I like dishes with lots of sauce).

This time around, I doubled the sauce and amount of tempeh, added a med. red onion, quadrupled the amount of garlic (1-2 cloves, cmon that is NOT enough), added 2T of chili flakes, and added 3 jalepenos. Obviously, I like my food spicy.

I love this dish, it is simple, delicious, and you can easily add to the dish to make something a little different.

Camillus, how much is in a "package" of tempeh?  Sorry, I don't live in the US.  The tempeh I buy comes in different sizes of blocks wrapped in banana leaf and plastic wrap so I don't know what a standard package size used in your recipe.

This was sooo delicious! Thank you for the recipe!!

Good but I would leave out the curry powder next time.

So delicious!  Thanks for the Recipe!!    ;)b

okay, had this last night and all I can say is  ;)b.

It was very good, and my son liked it too.  The tempeh had a meat-like consistency to it so at first my son didn't like it because he hates meat, but when he tasted the peanut butter in it he decided that he liked it.

I added steamed chopped broccoli to it, and also the water that the broccoli was cooked in because it was super thick and I wanted the sauce to be a little thinner so as to mix with rice.

Very good, will definately be making this again!  Yummy!
