Need Cat Advice!

So I had a cat walk into my house on Friday.  I figured it's a sign from God.  I really wanted a cat.  She's sooooo thin.  She's human-friendly, but it looks like if she happened to be owned by other person, they didn't do a good job of taking care of her.  How do I fatten her up?  Especially for these cold Pennsylvania winters.  Someone suggested to me putting olive oil on her kibbles, but I don't know if she would eat that.  I've started her on a kitty vitamin and I'm trying to get her to eat cat treats (which may not be the healthiest way...)  her tummy is flat and I've checked her poop so I don't think it's worms.  If anyone has had experience with strays or underweight kitties, please let me know.

I think before this spirals way off topic we should agree that people approaching pet care from a holistic perspective and people approaching pet care from a conventional perspective have drastically differing opinions on appropriate treatment and feeding plans.  The most important thing is that we're all doing the best we can in whatever way we know how.  ;)b

Good call, md  ;)b

How's the rescued kitty doing?  Is she eating well?

My kitty is doing well.  We're giving any potential owners time to claim her before we take her to the vet, but so far we think she has worms.  I do think since being in my company she's gained a few ounces and her coat looks better.  The vitamins are probably the #1 thing that's working.  I'm going to try the kitten milk soon though, but she's gaining well.

Please take her to the vet soon.  Worms can be potentially dangerous.  Whether you find her owners or not, she should get medical care now.  You took her in, it is now your responsibility to care for her well being.  Sorry to sound harsh but she should have gone to the vet a few days ago when you took her in.

Ideally, yes it would be great to take her to the vet.  But it's not exactly cost effective for college students.  I'm not paying $250+ if I only have her for 2 weeks.  I did give her OTC deworming medicine, which I suspect has helped.  If the owners don't call within two weeks, she's ours and going to the vet asap.  But so far she's been getting healthier and she's put on a few good ounces and she's happy - so far, I'd say we're doing well.
