Peasy's goin' on a trip...

I'm going to visit Cams next week and I'm taking Peasy with me.  I know kitties aren't generally fond of travel, but I'm gonna be gone for 2 weeks and I just can't leave her here that long.  I bought her a pretty souped-up carrier and she likes to sleep in it sometimes, so that's a good sign.  It's gonna be a big trip.  Not only will we be in the car for about 15+ hours, but Peasy will be meeting Cams' kitties for the first time.  I don't know that I'm really looking for advice, although, that would definitely be welcome.  I think I just want everyone to cross their fingers that it goes well!  :)

when Gary had to travel from London to Shropshire (about a 5 hour journey) to stop her from crying, which she always does when travelling, the driver put her carrier with the door facing the side of the van to make it all dark inside the carrier and she stopped crying straight away and apparently arrived at the end of the journey curled up asleep.

Not saying that Peasy will cry at all (Gary's just a wuss), but if she does, maybe that would help?

I hope all the kitties get along well.  Exciting times!

Thanks Shell, that's good to know.  The carrier I got is pretty neat.  It's clear plastic on top and has little paw cut-outs all around, so she can look out if she wants too, but I also figured I would take a blanket to cover the openings if she wants to be in the dark.  We'll also be doing a good portion of the trip through the night, so it will be dark anyway.  Strangely enough, she usually sleeps most of the night when we're home...hopefully she will in the car.  I've never driven with her, but my parents have and my mom said she never really seemed to mind the drive...but she was always on my mom's lap, not in a carrier.  Anyway.  I'm sure it will be fine.  It's definitely better than leaving her at home.

I don't have any particularly helpful advice because I've never had a cat, but I hope the trip goes really well and really smoothly for you and Peasy and I hope she gets along swimmingly with Siobhan and Priskilla and you all have an amazing holiday!! : )

So, Peasy's not diggin' it here so much.  She did pretty well in the car.  She cried for a little while, but then pretty much went to sleep.  We let her out of the crate in the apartment to explore a little bit, but kept her in Cams' bedroom.  She seemed ok, but then she saw Priss and Shivy and the hissing began.  Every time she sees one of them she hisses and growls.  She's also growling at Cams and me sometimes.  She FINALLY just pooped about 15 minutes ago...it's been since Saturday.  Poor kitty.  :(

Yesterday, Cams and I bought these treats that are supposed to have a calming affect, but so far, I'm not sure they're working.  Ugh.  I just don't know what to do.

oh no! I'm so sorry it's not going as well as hoped.
Maybe it's just the strange cats that have freaked her out and she'll calm down soon.  I hope so.

So, Peasy never really chilled out.  She continued to hiss at Cams' cats every time she saw them.  Oh well, at least they've met.  Maybe it will be better next time they meet.  She was good on the car ride home.  She cried for a little while, then slept a lot.  I think she actually enjoyed looking up at the sun through the window.  She was locked in Cams' bedroom most of the trip and didn't have much window time.  She knew we were home the minute I opened the car door.  She came in and sniffed around, ate some kibbles, and went straight to the litter box.  She's definitely been more affectionate since we got back.  She's definitely happy to be home.

such a shame she didn't get on with Cam's cats.....but I'm pleased that she's ok now she's home.

I wonder how long the extra affection will last!  When we moved Gary was so affectionate for the first week or so and now she's pretty much back to ignoring us (unless it's windy outside, she's afraid of the wind)
