Who wants to be an animal cheerleader!?

Ok,

So my cat (Kat) has been overweight since we got her. Three years ago. I dont know much of her story before then, other than whoever she lived with moved somewhere they couldn't take her, and booted her out to fend for herself. Now, if you knew my cat, she enjoys a life and lounging on ottomans and sleeping in our bed. She is NOT an outside kitty, and has no front claws. Our old neighbor found her rummaging through her garbage and the rest is history.

Over the last three years, we have talked to 4 different vets and tried COUNTLESS diets for her, and nothing has worked. A few months ago she got really sick, and we took her to a NEW vet. This one offered yet ANOTHER diet. We figured, what the heck, we'll try it!

GOOD NEWS!!! We just took her to her 6 week checkup and - she lost 1.5 lbs! Which is like a person losing 15lbs. The doctor even said we could feed her a little MORE if we wanted she is doing so good. If she loses 8 more pounds she will be down to 12, and the doctor says that would be enough. I cant be more excited! Although, I cant even imagine her skinny haha. Well have to come up with some new nicknames for her ( Fat Brat Cat wont work anymore)  ;D

I,ll update as much as I can to let you know how she is doing. Also, if you have an animal friend that needs some cheerleaders post here

How chubby was your kitty before, and what are you doing for her? If the lady doesn't mind me asking. My cat's always been on the heavy side for the year I've had him, and when I went on spring break our cat sitter over fed them all. He gained 4 1/2 pounds in a week. That was the first week of March. It's May now and he's only lost 1 pound by being back on his normal diet.

by my calculations, her cat was 21.5 lbs... rather large o_O

we have a weight chart at school for people with obese pets. so far almost all have been losing weight. it's great! especially since they also can and do get diabeetus.

good job with your kitty!

she was just under 22lbs and shes down to 20. What we are feeding her now, if you can believe it, is 9 lives canned, half in the morning, half for dinner. Only two flavors... chicken dinner and chicken/tuna dinner have the right carb/protein ratio per the doctor.

I dont know if that would work for your cat, but its doing well for her so far!

So amazing!!  I really think animals are meant to be on the leaner side. :)

as cute as she is chubby, i would have to agree. she is already more playful... we keep saying her inner kitten is coming out. suddenly shes like, darting across the floor after a motionless sock. its so funny!

p.s. right now im getting the "look how cute i am, give me breakfast early?" treatment. So we are ETA 5 minutes from "if you think this is annoying, you have no idea what im capeable of. breakfast or else."

My cats periodically try the annoying thing, but then I whip out my piccolo and they run away.

*UPDATE*

One of my best friends came over, saw Kat, and said "OH MY GOSH SHE LOST WEIGHT!" So its definitely noticeable to people who don't see her everyday. From an aerial view I can almost see a waist forming!

Zeus does. He does. He keeps changing shells. EVERY FEW HOURS. he is crazy.
I have to go shell shopping and hope to find him one he will actually stay in tomorrow morning before work. Silly silly crab.

He is in a giant one right now that he cannot move in. I put all the smaller ones around him and he pushed them away.

I just didn't know where to put this so I put it here.

NEW UPDATE:

So I was looking in my pantry thinking, jeez I feel like I buy soo much cat food and it disappears so quickly. Where does it all go?

Right in the the belly of a big furry con artist. Thats where.

Turns out Kat has been getting TWO breakfasts for at least a week or so. My boyfriend would wake up at 6ish, feed her and leave for work. She would gobble it all up immediately so that when I woke up around 7, she could put on her oscar-worthy "ohhhh im sooooo hungry, pleeeease help me" performance and I would feed her AGAIN.

Two steps forward, one step back.

haha. where i used to work, we had a live-in cat who would be a ball if we weren't on to her schemes. every time someone would come around she would cry plaintively as though she hadn't been fed the whole day. newbies would get fooled, and she'd get just a little fatter.
