Agar Agar Agar Agar Agar Agar Agar

Finally found Agar! Now, what do I do with it? My little ones are awaiting a yummy jello-like treat. . .how do I do that? I'm thinking one would use juice to flavor, but how? Does one use fresh juice, unreconstituted concentrate, is there any water, anything else. The package has recommended amounts of water to make a gel with, but how does the water : juice ratio work out, or is there one? I should simplify. . .How does one make a flavored agar gel? Thanks.

I think for best flavor, you would want to sub juice entirely for water. Otherwise, it would probably be too... well, watery. I've not used it, but I think that's the general consensus that I've heard.

Yes, I've made jello with juice and agar agar. No sweetener needed.

The package says to heat some of the water. . .do you heat up the juice?

I have only ever made a "sliceable cheese brick" with Agar Agar, however, I would think that you would have to heat the juice as from my experience, the Agar needs the hot liquid to dissolve in...

I'm glad this was brought up too I just bought some and have no idea how to use it. What ratios do you use? Is there anything else you can do w/ it besides jello?

if anyone DOES know what to do with agar, would you mind adding to to my rules of baking thread? that sounds like vegan wisdom to me :)

I've been wanting to give these a try for a while, but haven't gotten around to it:
