Ingredient Swap

Hey all,

I thought this might be a cool idea, since us VegWebber's live all over the place! I know some of my homies in NZ have a hard time finding Latin/ Mexican ingredients that I find in abundance... I love little swaps and gift exchanges, and even just sending peeps "presents" out of the kindness of my little vegan heart...

If you have access to something cool, let us know!

If you run into some weird spice, condiment, or ingredient that you want to share do so!

I have access to basically anything in Viva Vegan (Latin/Mexican)... Dried chilies, spices, garbanzo bean flour, nut yeast, you name it...

I also have an Indian grocery store right down the street and have access to black salt (for that distinct "eggy smell") and an abundance of other spices...

There is a Persian market across the street with spices, condiments, and chilies, dried fruits, dried beans of all kinds, exotic flours, etc

2 health food stores with tons of hard to find products and vegan goodies... Trader Joe's right down the street

I do have access to Asian ingredients as well, but it's a little drive (15 minutes North... Nothing like FB's Asian loot though)

If you run into something in a cookbook that you haven't seen/ heard of shout out!

Black salt definitely.  It's not expensive.  PM me an address and I'll send some on, no exchange necessary.  :)

I think I can get barley malt powder here. I'm not positive. But theres a super fantastic spice store in Sarasota and I feel like I might have seen it there? Hmmm.

Black salt is very inexpensive and readily available in several stores here in nashville.

If it's sealed up in a can or plastic, shouldn't be a problem.
Trouble is, I haven't got anything to swap back! Unless, like, a T-shirt or earrings or something.

I have few places near me :'(

I have pretty much the chain grocery stores like safeway and fred meyer, but they have a very lacking selection of natural or vegan foods.

As far as WF and Trader joes they are in the next town. No specialty shops nearest place that may have specialty food would be portland.

The area of oregon I live in vegan goods are rare

If anyone with access to Persian/Middle Eastern food wants to send me a jar of harissa and a bottle of pomegranate molasses, I'll send you a care package of goodies equal in price, or something else you want that I have access to.  I live in the same city as Storm.

Also, I crave Vegemite and have yet to find it in this town.  There's marmite, but I want Vegemite.

Thanks.

I live in Australia, the land of Vegemite.  Although if someone in the USA has access to it, it would probably be cheaper for them to send it to you.  But if no one else replies I can get you some.  I also have a recipe for harissa if you're interested.  PM me if you want it, or the Vegemite.

i am going to the market this weekend, i can def get the molasses i will look for the harissa...

can you think of anything else? they have both garlic and ginger paste (or a combo or both) which i know is in lots of Indian cooking, lots of bagged beans and specialty flours (chickpea, rice...), lots of chutneys and relish type jarred things, spices, tamarind paste, tons of diff canned olives...

i have not seen vege or marmite anywhere... i had to order the marmite stuffs for BCG's "Beefy Soy Curls"...

if i do a flat rate box i wanna fill it up!
