Making tempe

I'd never had tempeh until I ordered it at a vegan restaurant and discovered its deliciousness!

The chef there hosts cooking demonstrations and mentioned once that it can be hard to make. Now I'm intimidated.

Any recommendations on brands to get (or to avoid)? Any tips on making it?

I thought about it but never tried it.  According to everything I have read, you need a lot of specialty equipment, and I'm not set up for that in my small-ish kitchen.

Do you mean tips on preparing store bought tempeh?  Or do you actually want to make homemade tempeh from scratch?

If you mean preparing store bought, it is easy!  Some people steam or boil it first but I have never thought this was a necessary step.  Look for an interesting recipe on this site...read the reviews, if it sounds like you might like it then just follow the recipe. There is absolutely nothing difficult about preparing tempeh!

I also like Lightlife brand but I have tried others that I like as well.  I would just recommend that whatever brand you buy to make sure that it is organic.

I love tempeh! I think it is important to marinade it well because some people complain about its bitterness but I have never noticed it.
