I don't believe Quorn is vegan.  I am pretty sure it has egg whites in it.  I have heard it is made of a fungus, but I can't tell you for sure on that either.

What happened with the tofu?  It can be the nastiest stuff if you don't fix it right.  Are you generally intolerant of soy?

If you are looking at the "what do I eat" question, think legumes...lentils (a wonderful vegan choice as they have a lot of iron and protein), kidney beans, red beans, black beans and garbanzo beans (aka chickpeas).  You need look no further than this site for yummy recipes.  I especially like the mock tuna make from chickpeas.

When combined with whole grains, beans make "complete" high quality protein on a par with animal foods (and better, for they have fiber and other good things).

You can check out Dixie Diner dried meat-NOT! products if you just really need the meat analogs for convenience or if you are feeding omnis as well as vegans.

Thankfully, I can tolerate soy, because I am allergic to dairy and eggs.  If I toss out the meat, my other choice if vegan, so I do that.

Most of all, if you are a new vegan, you don't need to worry about the whole protein issue and getting enough of it.  The average adult needs 30 to 45 grams for a higher protein diet and it is better to eat less.  High protein diets leech your bones of calcium among other things.  You will, however, need some sort of B12 supplementation if you go vegan.  It can take a couple of decades for a shortage to show up as pernicious anemia and then it is a pain in the rear to treat.  Prevention is always a good thing.  If you can tolerate soymilks, the commercial varities often have B12 fortification.

Thanks for your reply.

I think i am allergic to soy.
Also herd Qourn was from a fugus.
I'm notthinking about going vegan, although i don't eat eggs or drink milk (i just don't like it) but i do like cakes etc so its hard to get around things like that.

I am already anemic have been for years and have precribed tablets but i'm useless at taking them.
I have been trying to eat more lentils and kidney bean etc but only know how to put them into a stew.
So ive been looking for new reciepes and have to say they all look yummy so i will be taking notes!!!!!

I just wanted to know if any one else likes to use Quorn as i haven't seen it in any recipes.

Qorn is currently being sued for failing to disclose on its packaging that the product can cause severe diarrhea and vomiting. I will look up specific information on the suit and post back with it. In the meantime, I'd definitely stay away from it. People always seem to have issues with Qorn.

Quorn has been around Europe for decades and is very popular with vegetarians there, without much incident.  There has been great resistance from the food industry in bringing the product to the USA and for a long time it was banned, despite decades of safe use in Europe.  A British friend of mine says they also have a lot more variety in the Quorn selections than we do, such as a lamb-type food, and other things.

It's vegetarian, but not vegan.

I periodically eat the chicken nuggets when I need a fast food, like after yoga class and before class on Tuesdays.  I have no problem with tofu and soy, but I eat so much of it, I'll eat Quorn just to get away from soy for a day.

I cook with the Quorn crumbles and enjoy it, never had any problems with it.  My omni boyfriend prefers it to the soy meat alternatives.

Yeah, I discovered Qorn when I studied abroad in London, and I loved it, but then when I got back to the US I started reading more about it and realized that there are some major problems. I think there were some issues awhile back with their egg sources. Apparently the birds who produced the eggs were confined to small cages, or something to that effect.
