anyone from Portland, OR? need travel tips.

my wife and i are going to Portland, OR for my birthday this coming summer (in June). from what i've read/heard, it sounds like there is a lot of vegetarian and vegan friendly restaurants to chose from. anyone have any restaurant recommendations? also, any tips for fun places to visit? i have a travel book, but I'd like to hear from someone that actually lives there or frequents Portland.

Thanks!

i went there in the fall and i ate nonstop!  beforehand i did a TON of research on yelp.com and on the stumptown vegans website.. they rate vegan food in portland.  i had a huge list so no matter what neighborhood i found myself in i had cool food to look for.  i should write a freaking travel guide..  if i can find my list i'll post it.

Definitely stop at downtown VooDoo doughnuts, for though they have maple bacon bars (yick!) they have scrumptious vegan doughnuts as well! I also recommend stopping by Sweetpea bakery on SE Stark and 12th(?) (either 12th or 13th) for either a bite to eat (everything is vegan!) or a sunday brunch which is only $8!!! and all VEGAN!! Sweetpea is also in the all vegan strip mall, complete with a grocery store (Food Fight!), acupuncture clinic (drop ins welcome), clothing store, and a tattoo parlor.

Sights I also recommend are: Powell's Books, Saturday Market, First Thursday on NE Alberta, Last Friday in the Pearl, and the soaking pool in the NE Kennedy School on NE 33rd between Killingsworth and Ainsworth (free to neighbors, $5 for everyone else).

Have fun!!!

If this place hasn't moved, Food Fight is on a lower level of a building, partially below ground.  It's hard to find, so if you know you're at the right address but don't see it, you're still in the right place.  It's really small.  Like a boutique shop, but cool in its vegan-ness nonetheless.

Good to hear.  I had to ask a series of nearby restaurant operators if they knew where it was because I couldn't find it.
