Roll Call!

Edit.  The following intro is a bit old.  I unfortunately ended my long term relationship after nearly ten years.  Just couldn't be worked out.  I got the house and the dogs and am relatively happy now.  I finished my online RN to BSN program and am a genuine college graduate at the age of 48!!!  Woot!

Edit #2 - I finally reached the ripe old age of 50 and am feeling fabulous!  I always get the "you don't look 50" thing, and I attribute that to a healthy diet and lifestyle.

I deleted my Myspace page.  I do have Facebook and love to have vegwebbers for friends. You can private message me and I'll give you my name.  Or you can find me on the vegweb fan page.

Edit #3 - Finally went vegan.  The last couple of years, I've been slowly getting there, replacing household and personal products with vegan items such as vegan soaps, candles, cleaners.  I've bought vegan shoes, belts and wallets.  I'm loving it!  Decided to let my hair go naturally grey instead of coloring it so I don't get the "you don't look 50" thing as much anymore.  LOL  I now have a desk job in the admit-transfer center and hate it hate it hate.  I just can't be stuck behind a desk, and I'm the lookout for something else.

Edit #4 - Found a position at the hospital I currnetly work on an ortho floor.  I think I'll like returning to the bedside and not a desk job.  w00t

It's been a while and I thought it might be nice to for everyone who posts here to tell a little about yourself.  I took a little sabbatical from this site (went back to eating meat for two years..........bleech), but lurked from time to time, but have been a part of this site for gee, can it be 8 or more years????  But I don't know a lot of you.

I am a nurse.  I am a male. (yes, a person who will remain nameless called me a "she".)  I am gay.  I've been in a monogamous relationship for the last nine years with a great guy who now travels a lot. I was an ovo-lacto veg*n for about 12 years before slipping, I plead insanity.

I'm currently in an online program to go from an ADN RN to BSN RN and hope to finally graduate from college at the age of 48 next year.

I have a very boring blog here:  http://allnurses.com/forums/journal.php?do=showjournal&j=13

You're turn.  Tell me your business!

so nice to meet you all! :D

Hello everyone, I've been lurking around this site checking out recipes for a couple of years...just this week I figured out that I'd have a more complete experience if I created a profile and start interacting.  This seems like a good place to start.  I'm 47, married and the mother of two beautiful grown daughters and 3 great stepsons.  We have 4 grandchildren but I'm anything but the typical Granny.  We live in beautiful central New Hampshire.  I've been an off-on vegetarian most of my life but 90% vegan for the past 2 years.  It never ceases to amaze me how delicious and easy cooking vegan can be.  :)  I've started creating a recipe book of my favs that I hope to develop and make copies for the family.  It's almost closing time so ... Cheers!

Hi everyone,
I've been using this site since first transitioning into veganism about a year ago, and have found so many great recipes and cooking tips, it's pretty awesome.  Veganism was primarily a health-related choice for me in the beginning, but now I've pretty much embraced all aspects of it, thanks in part to resources such as this one.  I'm a 23-yr-old female who graduated from university last year.  I love to cook, write, listen to music, do artsy and crafty things, and try to grow spiritually and intellectually, all while searching for life's purpose and a lucrative career path.

Hello everyone! I'm new to this site so I thought I'd introduce myself for those of you who care  ;). I'm 26, married, live in MI. I turned Vegan over a month ago and it's the best decision I've ever made. I'm a huge animal lover and decided it was time to put my money where my mouth was. Since turning Vegan I've been cooking and baking more than ever and I love it! My husband is happy too, no more microwave thawed crap.
Though I have a job, I still don't know what I want to do with my life. I also volunteer for a local animal shelter training dogs and helping out with cat adoptions. Things I like include shoes, black kitties, wine, the Detroit Red Wings, and Nine Inch Nails.

Since I have been here for almost 3 years now without saying much, I should probably introduce myself.

Lessee...
Name? Marc...
Food groupie? Vegan - though I still use things from symbiotic relationships done in an ethical fashion such as well cared for sheep and bees. Been halfway vegan since 1992. No dairy since 1994, no meat or eggs since 2006.
Male? Yes... it's still there. Willing to trade for a day though as long as I get boobies as well. Don't frown at me - Only full package offers considered.
Religion? Long ago I was indoctrinated into the ways of born again Christians, but I have long since become an undead athiest.
Orientation? Well the Disney hunk thread certainly didn't get any hormones going and they sure as hell aren't going on my fridge. They might "accidentally" end on my brother's fridge to give my mother's religious mindset something to fret about. Would like a Belle version though.
College? God yes. 5 years down, 6 to go. Working toward a dual doctorate in Cognitive Science and Neuroscience. Presently working on a Speech and Human Pathology/Therapy degree. Mwah ha ha - I'm going to give all your kids screwed up accents to drive you nuts.
Pets? Yes a Roman Rottweiler, a Missouri Fox Trotter, and a toddler who bites like a rabid puppy. Maybe I should make a reservation at the vet...

Questions I get:
What is with your hair? Yes it is naturally that curly. No I will not help you try to make your hair this curly. No you cannot touch it. No you may not taste it. I don't care that you think it looks like chocolate ribbons. Yes you may pull it under certain conditions.
What are your hobbies? Designing clothing (mostly coats, corsets, and dresses for a future Etsy shop), designing green architecture, baking (whole grain bread and tasty confectioneries), and duping meat and dairy people into liking vegan food with me.
Why is your car so psychotic? I think it it is haunted by by ghosts of blood oil octanes past. I'm sorry if it has bitten you too. Wait - can rabies cross that species barrier?
Do you really have riots in your city? Yes. Often. Rioting is our pastime. We riot over trees. We riot over cars. We riot over trade. If you look hard enough in our history I am sure you can find a riot over donuts.

So... hi to you all.

well I already live in texas, and one of the reasons I'm moving to austin is BECAUSE of how vegan friendly it is.

Well some of you may or may not have already seen me around here.  I'm new to the website but I'm an avid interneter and I'm currently home and unemployed due to an injury so you will see me on here often!!  (I'm also your typical opinionated, blabbermouth redhead)  ;)

I'm soon to be turning 31 and have only been vegetarian about 6 months.  I started off lacto-ovo but after watching some videos on the RealFoodChannel and doing some research I've cut those out also.  The hardest part I'm having with going full out vegan is giving up my ice cream which I enjoy on a daily basis.  :)>>>  (only a few spoonfuls so as to keep my girlish figure....lol)  My on again off again boyfriend also watched the videos with me a month ago or so and has since taken a total turn of heart about a vegan lifestyle and is trying to do it himself.  He also has a few slips, like the Teen Burger he told me he ate and thoroughly enjoyed the other day, but he's doing pretty good.  He was your typical hard core omnivore beforehand so I expect the transition to be slow and full of setbacks.  It's teaching and showing and providing him with healthy alternatives that is proving to be a fun part for me.

I myself have never been a huge meat eater but as with most people dinner was prepared around what kind of meat was taken out of the freezer earlier in the morning.  I've also suffered on and off with eating disorders (both anorexia and bulimia) for 15 or so years but am proud to say I'm "off" and hope to be forever so.  My recent injury is directly related to my sickness and is kind of.....how does the saying go....."the straw that broke the camels back"....only I broke my hip....lol.  I'm very open about my past, so if anyone ever has any concerns please feel free to ask.  If any good is to come of them it is the ability to educate and help others who are either sick themselves or know someone who is/has been.

I work as an Animal Health Technician, which is basically a veterinary nurse, at a clinic in the town of Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada.  Not long ago I adopted my dream odg......a Rhodesian Ridgeback named Sally, from an online rescue group.  I also own 7 bettas (Siamese Fighting Fish).  K, time to shut up....see what I mean about the blabbermouth??!!    ;D

Hello everyone,
I am a 32 year old girl...woman living in Italy.  I am new to the vegan lifestyle but have alwyas considered myself a pretty healthy person.  I have been vegan for a little more than a year and a half.  I am a teacher and have been doing teaching since 1999.  I found this website and have been as many call it lurking.  I love reading the posts because they really have some great topics that I am interested in.  The post concerning health and the typical veg. concerns have been helpful. This is my second post and will be doing more.  Thanks for the great reading material.  It does feel great to know how many of us are out there and from all over.

Hi all,

Well first of all I'll say that I feel like a bit of an impostor - I do not prescribe to strict vegan nor vegetarian diets. However, with some subtle persuasion from a friend, in the interest of being healthier I was directed to this site as a source for fantastic recipe ideas. Needless to say, I have not been disappointed.

About me - I live in Calgary, AB, Canada, and as a long time computer nerd working in the IT industry, I took a sabbatical a few years back to pursue my passion of food and attended culinary school for a year. After finishing that, the lure of a significant paycheck was too much for me to withstand and I ended up back in IT - although now I spend some of my evenings fiddling in the kitchen rather than being a couch potato.

Anyway, I felt that I should post in this thread because after trying some very enjoyable recipes, and even modifying some of my own omni recipes to work as veggie, I started exploring this site more and ended up on the forums. I've been lurking through quite a few threads which have been everywhere from entertaining to eye opening, but always enjoyable. I thought I might start throwing my $0.02 in once in awhile so I'd better let you all know who I am. :)

Hopefully not stepping on any toes,

Mark

Hi Mark!  Don't feel like an imposter - I don't think you need to be veggie just to use all the fantastic recipes or the forums here.
I'm glad that you've enjoyed the recipes so far - and yes come and join in on the forums, it's fun!

Hey all,

Soon to be 44, in like days, and a vegan for 3 weeks. I was an omnivore just three weeks ago and felt like crap! I feel so good, now, well, my gut feels great! Oh, and I lost 5 pounds, awesome!

I am unemployed since January 09. Live in Shickshinny, PA. (hate it here and will run away one day) I do have  a degree in photography and consider myself a fine arts photographer, which means I'll be rich when I am dead. Married for 19 years, three girls 24, 18 and 16 and a son-in-law. I have some great friends (all ominis), but I still love em.

I love AC/DC, food/cooking, art, wine, beer and music. Pretty boring!

I joined because of the extensive recipe collection. I'll stay because of the wonderful community.

Oh, by the way, Mark, The Kind Diet, by Alicia Silverstone. It is an easy read and, I think, laid out in an organized and understandable format.
