Roll Call!

Edit.  The following intro is a bit old.  I unfortunately ended my long term relationship after nearly ten years.  Just couldn't be worked out.  I got the house and the dogs and am relatively happy now.  I finished my online RN to BSN program and am a genuine college graduate at the age of 48!!!  Woot!

Edit #2 - I finally reached the ripe old age of 50 and am feeling fabulous!  I always get the "you don't look 50" thing, and I attribute that to a healthy diet and lifestyle.

I deleted my Myspace page.  I do have Facebook and love to have vegwebbers for friends. You can private message me and I'll give you my name.  Or you can find me on the vegweb fan page.

Edit #3 - Finally went vegan.  The last couple of years, I've been slowly getting there, replacing household and personal products with vegan items such as vegan soaps, candles, cleaners.  I've bought vegan shoes, belts and wallets.  I'm loving it!  Decided to let my hair go naturally grey instead of coloring it so I don't get the "you don't look 50" thing as much anymore.  LOL  I now have a desk job in the admit-transfer center and hate it hate it hate.  I just can't be stuck behind a desk, and I'm the lookout for something else.

Edit #4 - Found a position at the hospital I currnetly work on an ortho floor.  I think I'll like returning to the bedside and not a desk job.  w00t

It's been a while and I thought it might be nice to for everyone who posts here to tell a little about yourself.  I took a little sabbatical from this site (went back to eating meat for two years..........bleech), but lurked from time to time, but have been a part of this site for gee, can it be 8 or more years????  But I don't know a lot of you.

I am a nurse.  I am a male. (yes, a person who will remain nameless called me a "she".)  I am gay.  I've been in a monogamous relationship for the last nine years with a great guy who now travels a lot. I was an ovo-lacto veg*n for about 12 years before slipping, I plead insanity.

I'm currently in an online program to go from an ADN RN to BSN RN and hope to finally graduate from college at the age of 48 next year.

I have a very boring blog here:  http://allnurses.com/forums/journal.php?do=showjournal&j=13

You're turn.  Tell me your business!

Hiya

New user, about a month lurking, loving the recipes.

I suppose I'm your average hippie chick. I love the earth, nature and animals to distraction. I grew up on a small family farm when we raised all our own meat, eggs and milk. I know from personal experience that animals can be raised for consumption humanely and with respect. Seeing it done otherwise hurts me deeply. I know each of those creatures to be smart, loving and even silly in their own special way. Besides that how can you not respect something you plan to take into your own body? /soapbox

I am fairly new to vegetarian/vegan-ism. I've spent the last year transitioning to a lacto/ovo vegetarian and now am working at being fully vegan. My boyfriend and his 2 little daughters are not however so I have my challenges. He is supportive though and enjoys meatless food as long as it tastes good  ::)

I'm vegan because of what it does for our planet and for the animals we mistreat. But I wholeheartedly support anyone who does as much as they can for whatever reason. To me this can't be an all or nothing philosophy, we can't block out people in that way. Our media has spent so many years brainwashing our culture to expect overnight success. I believe we are like children, we have to slowly learn as we grow again back to the earth.

Hi, new member here!

I've returned to glutenfree veganism after a few years off. I had been vegan for over 7 years (glutenfree for a lot of that). Maybe 10 years, the more I think about it. I'm coming back to it because of some hormonal issues, so I also avoid some other foods besides animal products because they are highly estrogenic (no soy, flax, hemp, dates, etc..).

Mostly I eat whole glutenfree grains: teff, buckwheat, quinoa, sorghum, and whole beans, veggies (minimal fruits since I've got digestive problems with fructose and sorbitol), and some nuts and seeds. I don't use any processed stuff like tofu, seitan, or mock meats, and avoid baked goods and flours, I prefer eating the grains in their whole form. My one luxury is almond milk. :-)

I'm almost 40 (wow!! that sneaks up on you!), I'm not really a "hippie" at all, mostly I am eating this way for health and hormonal reasons, although I do appreciate the ethical reasons too, as that was the original reason I started it way back when.

My goal is getting complete nutrition and making good, wholesome, unprocessed, easy meals! I've been enjoying reading the forums here!

Hello everyone, it feels good to interact with other like minded people. I am new on here and hope to make some great acquaintances. I have been vegan for a few months but I stopped eating red meat about 6 years ago. I gave up poultry last year and fish, dairy, and eggs earlier this year. I feel great, godly since the transition. I think clearer and have more energy. I have a higher understanding of life and see the big picture. I thought being vegetarian was enough but realized it was only half stepping. I never was a big fan of milk but after research and discovering how cow's blood and pus is throughout the milk made me realize why. I sometimes wondered when in history did people decide that a cow was the perfect animal to milk? Why didn't they choose tigers or horses? Consuming excrement from any animal that is meant for and genetically created to nurture babies of a different species should seem odd to anyone. Any part of the animal comes from the same source and has all of its genetic structure and DNA in it, regardless if you consume their flesh, milk, blood, skin, bones, eggs, or saliva, you are still eating the animal and poisoning yourself. As with meat, we were historically and originally herbivores and during a period of darkness and limited vegetation some resorted to eating animals merely as a mean to survive from starving (almost like the people that resorted to cannibalism after the plane crash). After generations of this, people started thinking this is what they are suppose to eat and forget their original ways. Carnivores have the razor sharp teeth for tearing flesh and the digestive system to handle the bacteria ridden poison of eating flesh. It should also seem odd that animals that are meant to eat meat consume it raw, if most people did this they would die from food poisoning, that is what meat, egg, and dairy are to us, poison. Cooking it only limits the harm and prolongs the suffering we endure. Regardless if you die immediately from food poisoning or have 30 years knocked off your life expectancy, it's poison. And all of this isn't even considering the harm done to the animals but merely our own self destruction. I just had to get that out there, lol. I love science, history, astronomy, world events and many other topics. The recipes on the site are great too.

Hello there.  I am transitioning to a Vegan diet after "Eating Animals", and "Food Inc." led me to do some research on my own.  So far I have kicked eggs, milk, meat, and poultry out of my diet.  I've reduced seafood to about once a week, and cheese is still my biggest weakness, but I'm trying hard to get rid of it.  (I used to have about 5 daily servings of dairy in cheese/ice cream/yogurt form so down to 3 or so per week is big for me)  Although I know there are those that fully believe it's all or nothing, I feel I'm on my way to being healthier and having less effect on the animals and the environment.

I've only been cooking vegan, but I haven't been vigilant when I eat out.  As I'm telling more friends and family members about my diet changes it's easier.  I don't want to make a big deal about it and announce to everyone that I'm no longer eating meat, but it's also something that people need a heads up about if they're cooking for me or if we want to eat out .  It's a weird balance of showing I'm serious about it, but not that I'm judging others for still eating animal products, or trying to convince others to join me.  Even though I'd love for people to know more about these issues and make the same choices I'm making.  When my sister asked me why I switched I suggested for my sister to read the books too for all the info.  Unfortunately she said "I don't read things like that because I don't want to know".  Things like that make it harder.  Luckily this site makes it easier.

Hello all!

I've been lurking VegWeb for a long time, but finally decided to make a profile.  I've been a vegetarian most of my life.  Even as a young child, I never liked meat and eventually refused to eat it.  It just didn't taste or feel right to me.  Even now, I shy away from fake meat because it reminds me too much of the real stuff.

I look forward to sharing experiences and recipes.  See you around!

Hi all,

I have been a vegan for a little over a year and a vegitarian for over 5(I'm getting old) anyway I recently had to move back home to Jersey after a relationship didn't work out as planned.  It worked out for the  best it forced me to evaluate life and ultimately decide to go back to school, since i now live with my parents and brother I live in a house of omnivores and continuously hear "you know what would make that better...some meat" in my previous relationship my partner did all the cooking so now i'm forced to learn everything sweet i have managed to nail, however beyond black beans with tomato sauce and lots of chili pepper i'm really a poor cook, but we all have to start somewhere I suppose

Hi All Vegwebers,

I recently became a member and just love this site. Im 21 and have been a vegetarian for one year now and also one year when I was 17. This time around though, it has been very enjoyable! I never have craved meat and I realized that it wasn't crucial to have in my diet. The major thing that has made me look into being a healthier vegetarian were my headaches. They were constant, ever day and I decided to take control because my headaches were controlling me. I have a doctor, who also has a masters in naturoptathic and he taught me that I was estrogen dominant due to the tons of soy I was eating. Also, the morality issues behind industry animal farming really bother me and I'm slowly but surely changing into a vegan. Diary was the hardest to cut and now that I've cut it, I feel TONS better.

I have always been a "hippie" type of girl - I love herbs, I notice enviromental changes quickly, and care so much about animals and nature. I'm a naturally a naturalist, ha! (Maybe a tad korny as well.) Besides that I am married & going to college for American Sign Language to be an interpreter.

Its been enjoyble reading other members stories and introduction to oneself. :)  I hope I can give back to this site in ways I've benefited from it.
