Roll Call!

Edit.  The following intro is a bit old.  I unfortunately ended my long term relationship after nearly ten years.  Just couldn't be worked out.  I got the house and the dogs and am relatively happy now.  I finished my online RN to BSN program and am a genuine college graduate at the age of 48!!!  Woot!

Edit #2 - I finally reached the ripe old age of 50 and am feeling fabulous!  I always get the "you don't look 50" thing, and I attribute that to a healthy diet and lifestyle.

I deleted my Myspace page.  I do have Facebook and love to have vegwebbers for friends. You can private message me and I'll give you my name.  Or you can find me on the vegweb fan page.

Edit #3 - Finally went vegan.  The last couple of years, I've been slowly getting there, replacing household and personal products with vegan items such as vegan soaps, candles, cleaners.  I've bought vegan shoes, belts and wallets.  I'm loving it!  Decided to let my hair go naturally grey instead of coloring it so I don't get the "you don't look 50" thing as much anymore.  LOL  I now have a desk job in the admit-transfer center and hate it hate it hate.  I just can't be stuck behind a desk, and I'm the lookout for something else.

Edit #4 - Found a position at the hospital I currnetly work on an ortho floor.  I think I'll like returning to the bedside and not a desk job.  w00t

It's been a while and I thought it might be nice to for everyone who posts here to tell a little about yourself.  I took a little sabbatical from this site (went back to eating meat for two years..........bleech), but lurked from time to time, but have been a part of this site for gee, can it be 8 or more years????  But I don't know a lot of you.

I am a nurse.  I am a male. (yes, a person who will remain nameless called me a "she".)  I am gay.  I've been in a monogamous relationship for the last nine years with a great guy who now travels a lot. I was an ovo-lacto veg*n for about 12 years before slipping, I plead insanity.

I'm currently in an online program to go from an ADN RN to BSN RN and hope to finally graduate from college at the age of 48 next year.

I have a very boring blog here:  http://allnurses.com/forums/journal.php?do=showjournal&j=13

You're turn.  Tell me your business!

H, my name is Angela. I've been using the vegweb site for several years but never used the forums.  :)

Hi, new forum poster but long time forum/recipe reader. It's funny but I've been reading the forums for so long that I feel like I know some of you  :)

I'm in Chicago (the 'burbs), love me some football and baseball (Sox, not that other team that shall go nameless!), math and computers are my hobbies and I'm a Buddhist. I'm not quite vegan just yet as I need to kick the nasty cheese habit and I really need to start up some sort of exercise program.

It's a pleasure to meet all  of you!

I also have been lurking around vegweb for a few months, trying out some recipes and thought it was finally time to say hello! I'm about to be 32 here in a few weeks. I have a boyfriend of about 2 1/2 years, he was raised vegetarian and turned me on to it. We aren't quite vegan yet, making our way there slowly but surely. I have an awesome 7-year old son from a previous marriage and together we have a beautiful 14-month old daughter. I'm a medical assistant and work at a clinic in Spokane, WA. I love to read, cook and spend time with my family!

Hi everyone. I've mostly been lurking the recipes here, but I found this thread and decided to let my narcissism out to play. Call me StarKid; I can't reveal my real name because the paparazzi would be at my door in an hour. I'm a 30-year-old born and raised Californian (U.S.), currently living with my French girlfriend. We've recently started our first vegetable garden; some of the plants are doing well, and others...well, we didn't really know what we were doing.

I've been a vegan for just over a year, and I started out on the path by accident. I was diagnosed with reactive hypoglycemia in college, and the nutritionist I saw really stressed that I needed to eat a lot of protein to help regulate my blood sugar, so I was kind of scared to cut animal products out of my diet. A few years later, I was in a situation where I was staying in someone else's house. I didn't want to be in the way so I didn't cook much and ended up eating very little meat. I found that I had lost weight and felt fine, so I eventually stopped eating meat altogether, then decided to follow a vegan diet just to prove to myself that I could do it. I soon realized that I was almost never having problems with low blood sugar anymore, and I became a true vegan once I began educating myself about animal rights and environmental issues.

I finished my B.S. in Physics last December. I am an amateur musician and composer. I love to read, learn new things, play with computers, and exercise my brain in general, and I have strong interests in radical feminism and sustainable, non-toxic living. I've been working online as a sort of freelance jack-of-all-trades, but business is slow lately.

Reading other people's intros has been interesting.

Hello, I'm Laura, I'm a new member but have used VegWeb for recipes for years.  I've been vegan for five years, vegetarian for about 7 years before that.  I consider choosing veganism one of the best choices I've ever made (second only to choosing my husband).  I live on the lovely San Francisco Peninsula with my vegan husband and our 130lb vegetarian puppy.

Greetings!

i am a 22 year old single mom, full time college student, and I work with homeless teens at a transitional living program.
I live in a republican state where the economy is based off of agriculture (corn and beef).  I have pretty liberal beliefs and don't like beef.
I've been a vegetarian off and on since I was 17.  I found that it helps me feel better about myself when I don't eat animal.  My son has a dairy allergy so I don't eat dairy and I eat one egg a month.  I might as well cut that out and be a vegan. I get made fun of a lot by my family and friends.  A lot of people criticize me for not feeding animal to my son.  Very few people take the time to ask me why I am veg.
I'm looking forward to moving to a bigger city where I won't be the only veg there.
I like to try new foods but I like them to be simple.
Are there any friends of Bill W on here?

Hi! I was a single mom for 12 years: power, sister!  :) I also live in a place (ie the Bible/Bacon Belt) where I often feel like the only representative of my tribe, in a world of nutrition ignorance! I swear to Buddha: if ONE more person asks where I get my m'f'n PROTEIN.... (shinKICK!!) :-p

Anyway: welcome to VW!!! and thank goodness for the internet. Community = valuable!  :)

Hi!  I became a vegetarian last October after reading Eating Animals, but it had really been a long journey that also came from all the books I read on dog and animal psychology (I have 2 wonderful lab mix stray rescues), and the attempt to eat a healthier diet.  I kinda consider myself a vegetarian plus at present, because the only animal products left in my diet are the cheese on my pizza, which I'm not quite ready to give up yet.  I feel bad, but I am happy I'm doing more than I had been.  I've been reading these boards since I became veg, and finally signed up for an account so I could contribute.
I live in the Midwest, where I do meet with a lot of flack for my diet.  I teach history at the college level.  I love running, theater, kickboxing, reading, needlework, Buffy the Vampire Slayer and cooking.  I'm trying to cook 100 new vegan recipes this summer after going on a cookbook spree when I became a vegetarian, and I'm 22 in!
It's nice to find a community!  Thanks for posting so many encouraging and informative things for me to read when I was making the transition!

Hey Team! I'm Andrew, and I've been using vegweb for... years now, but I finally signed up to be a real member.  I just graduated from Michigan State with degrees in Business and Dietetics.  I'm fully on board with being vegan for a lot of reasons, but the health benefits are certainly an awesome part.  I've already posted a couple of recipes, and I certainly plan to keep throwing them out there as I experiment :)

I have been using Vegweb for about a year now, but am new to the forums. I have been vegetarian for a few years now, but am now mostly vegan. I have the most trouble when visiting others, in restaurants and especially when people bring sweets into work. I am getting the restaurant thing pretty much down, though I still make mistakes. For example the other day I remembered to say no cheese on my sandwich but didn't realize my salad came with cheese. Also when we have snack day at work, I don't bring anything and then I don't feel I can eat anything. Saves me from the guilt of eating the things I shouldn't. I hope to continue improving!

Congrats!  What would be sad is if you were like most Americans and made no lifestyle changes despite having ill health.  Kudos to you for that.  Nice to meet you.
