What Would You Like Done With Your Body When You Die?

Sorry if this is morbid, but we've been talking about this all afternoon and I'm curious what others want done with their bodies after they die.  This is meant to be lighthearted, as I am not a very serious person.

Both and Andy and I would like to be cremated.  I would like my ashes to be divvied up amongst  those whom would like to have a little bit of me......then the rest go to Andy, if I die first.  He is to wear a necklace with my ashes in it and get a tattoo (a dreaded task in his book) with my ashes mixed into the ink.  My mother has agreed to uphold the law, in my absence.

Andy would like to have his ashes sprinkled into orange balloons with sad faces on them, then released on his next birthday, after his death.  And, yes, I pointed out how un-enviromentally friendly this was.

My friend Megan would like to be stuffed.  I'm not sure this will be feasible, but I could be wrong.

You?

I think I want my body donated for something. I don't want to be buried, and I don't want to be cremated, and I don't want to be eaten, and I don't want to be frozen. I would hope that it could be used to do something nice. Maybe someone could use me to show how perfect a human can be after living a vegan life.  :> I'm also wondering Why You Capitalized Each First Letter Of This Thread. It sounds like a book!

Ha!  I don't know....thats how we type in our client support notes here at work - I must be in that mode.

I used to say I wanted to be cremated because I don't get the coffin thing.  I mean, aren't we eventually going to run out of space?  Anyway, cremation doesn't really sound all that great to me with the pollution and stuff, but then I heard about natural cemetaries.  That's what I want now.  Your body is buried in a sheet or something else that will biodegrade.  You aren't allowed to leave permanent markers or anything.  You just kinda go back to the dirt.

i just want to be buried (not in a coffin!). like, with nothing on or anything. i don't understand the hoopla bout doing something with your body after you die.

Yes!  No clothes!  I don't understand it either hespedal...especially the whole vault thing.  Why do you need to be in a wooden case that it protected by a metal vault?  It doesn't make any sense to me.

I want to be cremated and my ashes made into a cement and me fake coral reef to help replace all of the coral that is dieing out. This is something they actually do. I think you get your name on it somewhere too. I'd want my loved ones to have my coral's GPS coordinates so they could dive down and visit me whenever they wanted and see what critters are living on me. They would have to call it SaraCoral.  :)

Sara, that is so cool.

I am a donor and do not want to be on life sustaining machines longer than it takes my loved ones to say their 'goodbyes'.  After which, I would like every organ that is viable to be donated to those whose lives could most benefit from them.

As for what is left; I used to want to be cremated and spread into the Pacific Ocean (or my loved ones can keep me if they want).

Sara ~ That. Is. Awesome. ;)b

i like the idea of being buried sans coffin and clothes.
i don think this is a morbid thread, i think its subject that maybe should be given more thought. To have a choice in the matter after you are dead is empowering.

I'm on the organ donor list- everything except my eyes (That just weirds me out a little, donating eyes, and mine are bad anyways) is up for grabs, for anyone who needs it. I don't like the idea of being buried. Like Lotus said, we'll run out of space eventually, and I don't want my body stuck in a morbid graveyard somewhere =/

My mom has really good dirt in her back yard. Maybe I could be mulch.

Yeah, I'm on the organ donor list too, they can have whatever. I don't really care much because it's just my body. My rotting dead body.

Yea if any part of me is viable for donation I want it to be donated, no questions asked...my parents and partner are both aware of this wish of mine. A close friend of mine was kept alive for 10 years with a donated heart. I would never have known him if that person/family hadn't been generous. He died two years ago when it gave out, and he had a huge influence on my life. I was a donor before I knew him but the deal is done now, I am very firm on the matter.

After that, the bits that aren't of any use...I don't want them embalmed, I know the pollution of cremation is crap but I'd probably prefer it to burial, though the natural burials sound cool :) The coral reef sounds the coolest!

This is way cool! I never thought of that before!

I really like the concept of natural burials. You get a shallow plot in a forest and your body is allowed to decay back into nature--I like the idea of becoming apart of a tree or the earth--it just feels so right.

Ditto ;)b...Hubby wants to be cremated, and his ashes spread on the Las Vegas strip, I told him I didn't think that was legal, so if he goes first, I'll make a hole in my pocket, and "sprinkle" him along the strip(remember the Shawshank redemption)....my older son, said he would flush him down the toilet for a "quick buriel at sea" ;D

Thanks! I think it would be pretty cool to be coral :)

After every available organ is harvested, I kind of like the idea of becoming a diamond.  They take your ashes and your loved ones decide carats, cut, clarity, etc. and they just compress your ashes down into a diamond.  As for any left-overs, I just want to be dumped/flushed.  I don't think any other time/effort/money should go to putting me somewhere.

I do like the idea of coral, however...

I want to be cremated so I can be dust in the wind like the song by Kansas.

Erin, I would've capitalized every letter in the title, too.
