I just scored a....... (a thread about finding great deals!!!)

I  love to brag about how little I paid for something. Like my $2.00 boots, or $14 Tofurkey dinners. This thread is dedicated to all the good deals we find!  8-)

I just scored (2) three pound tubs of Earth Balance for $2.99!

At this gross discount grocery store which hardly has anything vegan, they had these HUGE ASS tubs of EB (commercial size?) for $2.99 each. I did not realize until I got home that she only charged me for one, and NO I did not go back to correct her error! It is sort of far away (now I'm sure karma will bite me in the ass at some point). But jeez.....6 pounds for 3 bucks! I need to take a picture so you can appreciate how large these are. They are bigger than my head.

Anyone else get any good deals lately?

haha, well, what we're actually going to do is sell part of it to my husband's parents.  That's part of my job for today, figuring out how to re-bag 12kg of rice!

ahh you're crazy! :)

I don't think I ever posted about my great hiking bargains....so I will now!

So me and N have decided we would lke to get back into hiking when we get to NZ, so I was on the lookout for some vegan hiking boots, but the only ones I could find were way expensive - but decided that that's what I would have to get.
They were available from a shop n Brighton, which is where my sister lives, so I booked a weekend in brighton to get the boots and visit my sister.
The week before I went to visit my sister phoned askng what size shoes I wear because in freecycle that week there were some size 5 hikng boots fom Vegetarian Shoes.  I'm a size 5!!
So I got FREE VEGAN hiking boots, that fit so so well!!  Yay!

I have also been looking for a lightweight waterproof jacket, and checked out the Craghoppers website and they were havng a sale - so  got a waterproof jacket in my size and in PURPLE reduced from £75 to £25!!
And I always have problems wth arm lengths as I have a wide back/longish arms, so most other jackets I had tried were too short in the arm - my new jacket is just right!

I posted this on the things that make you smile thread but it's such a good deal, it deserves to be here as well.
I have been looking for someplace within Niagara that sells Soapnuts & I finally found it  through facebook market place. Soapnuts Niagara I was so surprised when I called to find out that it's a home operated business & the owner will deliver straight to my door (which isn't in the same town as she lives in). 500g of Soapnuts for $20.00. She included a new diswashing liquid product for free & charged me absolutely no tax! If you're Canadian, you're slapping your head saying holy crap  :> She did charge me $3.00  to deliver it to me but considering she came from the other end.....WHAT A DEAL  ;)b

Excuse me while I go do some laundry :w00t!:

I got a band shirt for 5 dollarssssss.

And Also. This is more of bargaining. But I think it can fit here. I brought sushi to a singer in a band, he gave me a CD in return. CD cost $5, sushi was $4.25. Saved 75cents. Haha. I was proud of it.

I got a castiron griddle pan at IKEA for all of 8 Euros. That puppy is heavy! I spent the weekend seasoning it (went into overdrive and did it both ways, stovetop and oven, just to make sure). Welsh cakes are on my horizon!! Not only will it do stove duty...I can use it to press tofu or weight anything that needs weighting (gluing covers back on books etc). And if anyone breaks into the apartment I can take them out, no messing. One bop on the bean with that lil sweetie and there will be peace in the valley once more.  ;D If only I were strong enough to swing it!

I also got one of those neck-support pillows at IKEA. One of my students told me about it and I got one there. I was a little wary because the package said that it "may take a few days to get used to" but the minute I lay down on it, I relaxed. I sleep better now than I ever have before. No lie. Only 20 Euros. DH tried it for a few minutes yesterday (because I hokked him about it), and I saw him relax. He says he wants one.

I hate going into IKEA, it's so darn big. But you can find good stuff there.

OWW, I love my Asian store bargains too! I got a kilo of Japanese shiro miso for the price of 300g of the Chinese made stuff. What I'm gonna do with a kilo of miso, plus the hatcho miso I already had, is anyone's guess, what with warmer weather coming on. ;D But it'll keep.

My boyfriend won a climbing pad for free from a climbing website. This puppy is handmade in his custom colors, originally costs $200--and he got is free for entering a contest! In the past month he's also won: free climbing chalk, long sleeve tech shirt, climbing pants, climbing brush, and a light bar to go on his car. That's insane! I said we should e-bay all this stuff and pay rent! (He said no.)

i stumbled across a closeout store today and got earth balance almond butter for 1.99 a jar..  and i found dates for 2.00 for 10oz... AND i found coconut oil for 3.59 for 12oz.  and rounds of figs for 1.50..  and loose bananas for 10cents.. and $3 shorts for the gym..  then i had an awesome lunch at this vegan place for 7bucks that gave me enough food for 2 meals.  then i wandered across the street and saw the biggest cans of worthington veg beef links ive ever seen in my life (like industrial sized and covered with dust cus who would need that?)  then i went to the place next door thinking it was a health food store but it turned out to be a fully vegan bakery and cafe!  all the stuff in the case looked healthy-ish (wheat flour) and i got a apple turnover ($2) it was just ok.. too heavy of a crust and basic apple pie filling but i'm gonna go back to try their vegan jamaican soy fish patties and carrot cake.  good shopping day!

The other day I found that my grocery store (HEB) now carries King Soba noodles. I picked up the brown rice/wakame and the black rice noodles for $1.99 a package. Going to play around this weekend and see what I can come up with.

this is really tasty - id double the broth and the seasonings though or only use half the package of soba.

i forgot - i got a box of 3 - 19oz packages of house brand tofu at costco for like 3.86 or something crazy cheap like that.  it's their everyday price, too.
