Larabar

Thanks to everyone who mentioned how much they liked Larabars in an older granola bar thread.
I ordered every flavor online (the maya/jocalate ones too) and got them all today and we did a taste test tonight! I only tried 3 but MMM!!! We are so impressed!!!!
Cherry Pie was my FAV! (of the 3 we tried) I can't wait to get through ALL the bars so that I know which to order entire boxes of!!
RAW food rules!!!  :D  :D  :D  :D  :D  :D  :D

Has anyone on here tried to recreate Larabars at home? It seems so simple: dates, almonds, cherries. My mom (bookmama) and I are hatching a plan to test this theory sometime soon.  ;D

Oooh, please let us know if you guys are successful! The cherry pie is my fave as well.  :)

After disappointment with the Apple Pie and Cashew Cookie, I was ready to give up on Larabar. Then after the seeing the posting here for Larabar samples, I decided to give Larabar one more try. I wrote to them requesting samples. They did not disappoint. My brief critiques.

Larabar Reviews

Cherry Pie: A suprisingly sweet punch when I bit into it. This bar is bursting with cherry flavor. Wow. Now I know why this bar captured 1st Place in Real Simple magazine's Roadtest of Fruity nutrition bars.
Rating: 5 stars (out of 5 stars)

Jocalat Chocolate Mint: This takes like just like thin chocolate mints, mixed with dates, in a chewy brownie-like bar. Neither too rich nor too sweet. Still needs needs that extra kick to merit 5 stars, but I'd still buy it over the competitor's versions of chocolate mint flavored nutrition bars.

For the record, I think Cherry Pie and Cashew Cookie were my favorites. Cherry because of the flavor burst, and cashew cookie for the "not-so-sweet" simplicity of the bar. It felt a little more substantial than the other more fruity ones.

These are wonderful. My 12 year old LOVES them! Her new favorite is the chocolate one, but she still adores the cherry and the cashew ones too! I haven't seen the cinnamon roll one. I bet she'd love that!

I got a big box at Costco and they didn't last too long...delicious but expensive and high calorie if you pig out like I did!

I didn't update...
we got the new Key Lime and pistachio (I requested these since they were new and the only two we haven't tried)

Pistachio is okay.... kind of like cashew cookie... plain. but good.

Key Lime is goooooooooooooooooooooooooood definately TOP 5... made my husband's #1 spot. it's a hint of coconut and tropical flavored yumminess.

Sadly ours came with newspaper and not the fun packing peanuts. :)
My husband was confused when I opened the box and said, "Awwwwwww fooey.... newspaper???"

Yeah, Key Lime was awesome!!!  I think it beat out the former #1 which was Cherry Pie.  But you are still a very close second, cherry pie.  :D

Noe that I have regained my tastebuds, I've tried my lemon and apple pie. Both were good. I'm not really a fan of lemon-flavored foods, but it was pretty okay as far as lemon foods go. The apple pie was AMAZING! Seriously. I couldn't make myself take big bites because I wanted the flavor to last forever. I spaced it out over two class periods. I got a few "what on earth are you eating" remarks, but I just kept humming.  ;D

The only one I've not liked so far is the Jocolat Chocolate Orange. It is unheard of for me not to finish something sweet, but I actually threw half of this bar away. I'm not into "bitter" and this one was a combination of bitter and soapy. I enjoyed all my samples, though, and I've liked the lemon and gingersnap, too. So, out of at least 8 so far I only did not like one. That's pretty good, I think. :)

Larabars are great (the original ones are good but I'm not too crazy about the Maya ones...)  but there are even better raw vegan bars out there!  :)  Try the Organic brand and my fav right now are the ProBar, which I get at REI.  I don't know where else you can find them.  ProBar are a bit higher in calories, about 380-400 cal/bar, but they can be used as meal replacements.  A lot of my friends like the Koka Moka flavor but I am also partial to the Original and Nutty Banana flavors.

I bought four Key Lime Larabars today. They've become my new favorite. I put them in the fridge.

For anyone in New Zealand, I tried the Chocolate-coconut Larabar. Some camping store had imported them, and they cost WAY too much because of it. But it tasted just like the Carob No-No Bar. And No-No bars are available everywhere (in NZ), just some of them have honey, so watch out. Anyway, I think I'm going to go re-explore the No-No range.

I just made "Larabars" today using this website.  They turned out great! I did do the recipe a little different, though.  It says to put the dates in the food processor then work the nuts/fruit in with your hands, but I found it a little difficult to get it all mixed well, so I put everything in the processor.  I also didn't measure the ingredients...just added what I thought would be good.

I made some with:
Almonds, coconut, and lime juice (Like key lime larabar)
Pecans and black currants
Pecans, coconut, black currants, and lime juice

(I had a lot of pecans... ::))

They turned out really well! And much more affordable than from the store. :)
