Superstar VegWebber of the week: Cali!

All I have to say is that Cali has been the most nominated person for Superstar VegWebber. I've received so many emails that proclaim her awesomeness, I've lost count. And it's true, SHE IS SO AWESOME. An excellent voice on the threads, contributor to the site and all around joy. Yay Cali! Check out her profile here: http://vegweb.com/index.php?action=profile;u=1526 and her answers to the questionnaire below. And, in honor of Cali, if you know anyone who should be Superstar VegWebber, shoot me an email with your nomination to laura at vegweb dot com!

VegWebber since?  1998 in June I believe.

Vegetarian, Vegan or ??  I eat a vegan diet and try to live a vegan lifestyle.

Where do you call home?  Western Connecticut is home though I have only lived here about 7 years.
What do you do when you're not on VegWeb?  I am unemployed Executive Assistant who games on EverQuest 2 most evenings, reads trashy sci fi romance books, attempts to garden and plays pirate during the summer weekends at the New York Renaissance Faire.

Do you have blog or website? www.fearlesslyvegan.com

Do you tweet? Nope, my life is not interesting enough to tweet about.

One unique thing should know about you?  In real life I metaphorically own and wear poudly my Queen Bitch of the World tiara.  I like to think VegWeb brings out the best in me.

What’s the best thing about being vegan?  The wonderful variety of food.  Most people go through life eating what they have always eaten and only rarely stepping out of their comfort zone to try something new, be it a new preparation, new ingredient or new cuisine.  Since 1998 I have been learning so many wonderful and varied foods.

Favorite romantic recipe on VegWeb?  A very long time ago I printed out a Truffle recipe that for me is romantic.  Something about the rich thick chocolate flavors in a small finger held size.  Easy to share and decadent on the tongue.  I need to find that recipe in my folder!

Favorite recipe on VegWeb to make for non-vegans to show them how amazing vegan food can be? Banana Bonanza Bread.  Its so easy, delicious and most non-vegans do not realize how simple vegan baking can be.

Favorite Holiday VegWeb recipe?  Tofu Pumpkin Pie or Cranberry Salsa

Best/Funniest/Most delicious/Most disasterous experience you've had making a recipe on VegWeb?  I took the Cilantro Lime Tofu and Black Beans to a potluck and people raved about it.  For such a simple recipe (every ingredient almost is in the title) it gets such rave reviews and people looked shocked at the simplicity.  Sometimes its just a simple combination of flavors that make a recipe so fantastic its almost unbelievably good.

One thing you wish you could make vegan but haven’t succeeded at yet?  Lemon Meringue Pie like my Nana would make me every holiday season.

#1 Cooking secret/tip?  Trust yourself and sample as you go.  I am a chaotic cook and rarely measure, instead I simply eye and taste test things while it cooks.

Best music to cook by?  I dont actually turn music on while cooking.  But I think the best would be the sounds of family and friends having fun in the kitchen and house while I cook.

Three people you'd most like to have dinner with?  Aside from the people I love and you guys? The three people I would like to have dinner with are Alton Brown, The Dalai Lama and Colin T. Champbell

All time favorite restaurant?  It is a toss up between Millennium and Candle 79 as both are so fantastic with rich flavors, inspired recipes and decadent atmosphere.

French fries or ice cream?  Ice cream.  I think I gave up craving french fries once I hit 30.

Soy milk, rice milk, almond milk?  Soy, though Oat is so fantastic I just rarely find it.

Tempeh, tofu or seitan?  I have streaks of preference between tofu and seitan.  Currently it is tofu this month with lightly fried cubes sauted in sauces winning.  But last month is was steamed seitan that was my favorite.

Seems like I've known you a looooooooooooong time.  Congrats!
