Podcasts!

We've had this thread before, but I want to know (again!) if there are any podcast listeners, and what you listen to.  Podcasts are my crack.  I listen to a podcast every night while I'm falling to sleep.

In my itunes:

Cast On (knitting)
The Cosmopolitan Hour - a feminist/vegan podcast by PPKers Erika and Jordan - I love this so much!  Hilarious
Let's Get Baked (vegan cooking show with guest bands)
various Librivox audiobooks
Limenviolet (knitting, hilarious)
The Ricky Gervais Podcast
Savage Love (sex advice call-in show with Dan Savage)
Sex is Fun (sex health/education/interesting stuff)
Stephen Fry's Podgrams (so great)
This American Life (from npr)
VeganFreak Radio
Vegetarian Food for Thought (Colleen Patrick Goudreau)
You Look Nice Today (just a bunch of funny guys shootin' the shit)

I want mooooooooore.  Podcasts!  What are some good ones?

I'm such a podcast junkie.

Currently subscribed to:

This American Life (probably one of the greatest public radio programs of all time)
WNYC: Radio Lab (presents some of the most fascinating phenomena unearthed by science in a format easily accessible for the "lay-person"... quality-wise, I think it's on par with This American Life)
PRI: To the Best of Our Knowledge (in-depth stories about current events, culture, society, etc)
Shrink Rap Radio (Psychology)
Ideas from CBC Radio (Canadian radio documentaries and in-depth interviews... I'm not from Canada, but they have great public radio!)
And the Winner Is... from CBC Radio (similar to above, but only award-winning radio documentaries)
Alan Watts Podcast (philosophy and spirituality talks by the great Alan Watts)
Coffee Break French (helping with my French class)
All in the Mind from ABC Radio National (Australian public radio show that covers all things related to mind and brain)
Vegetarian Food for Thought (self-explanatory)

And I usually listen to (but don't automaticallly download) these:

Thinking Allowed from the BBC (hillarious and endearing host covers sociology-related topics)
NPR's Most Emailed Stories (great variety of NPR stories of the day)
Front Page from the New York Times (for the day's headlines)
NPR's Science Friday (I browse the individual stories for what sounds interesting)
The Ethicist from the NY Times ("the ethicist" responds to letters from people facing ethical dilemmas in their life... I like the way this guy thinks. Plus, he's funny)

I think that's all I'll list for now. There are many others I listen to, but not regularly enough to download them automatically to my Ipod. Can you tell I'm a big nerd from my selection?  :P

I've still never listened to a podcast...

Of course my first post here ever would be about podcasts.

My favorites:

Audio Dharma
All in the Mind
Writers Almanac (episodes are short but worth it)
Frontline World (video podcasts- super interesting)
Vegetarian Food for Thought
This American Life
Selected Shorts (short story podcast from PRI)
Coffee Break Spanish

I'm a science junkie so I'm definitely going to check out some of the podcasts mentioned above, as well as some of the sex, knitting, and vegan cooking podcasts- not to mention Ricky Gervais.

I've still never listened to a podcast...

What the hell!  Are you serious?  Get on that!

-My favorite is Vegetarian Food for Thought.
-Also LOOOOOVE Yell at Your Fat.  It's a health & fitness/weight-loss podcast done by this woman named Wendy who lost over 120 lbs. by going vegan.  She's hilarious!
-Vegan Freak (I subscribe, but don't listen often.  They're not really my style.)
-Wait Wait Don't Tell Me (NPR)

I downloaded some episodes of Sex is Fun on your recommendation, KMK, but still haven't gotten a chance to listen!

Now that you remind me, I'll be looking for more good podcasts!

I am rarely in the car on Saturdays & Sundays during the time "Wait Wait" is on, so I LOVE catching up via podcast.  Love that show!

Reaped the rewards of trying some of your suggestions today- especially enjoying The Cosmopolitan Hour- nice combo of hilarious and thought provoking.

Cosmopolitan Hour is so great.  I listen to each episode over and over until the new one comes out.  :D

I've still never listened to a podcast...

Me either..

But i'm thinking about trying some of these out. How much memory would it take up on your computer?
I recently came across this some might be interested in  FreedomainRadio.com

It depends on the length.  An hour-long podcast takes up about 40-50 mb, I'm finding, but then you can delete the current episode when the new one comes out.  So not that much.

I need to get into more podcasts....

I have just this weekend discovered how to work podcasts (I'm so crap with technology!).

So far I have listened to one of the Vegetarian Food for Thought (I think it was) about sheep and wool - because I was beginning to feel weak about wool when I found it difficult to obtain vegan yarn for knitting.

I have also downloaded some Podrunner (I think) to try out when I'm at the gym.  And another fitness music-y one (fitmusic?)

I'll try some of the others recommended here.

does a podcast have to go on your ipod to be a podcast?

My ipod is ancient and hasn't had space on it for, like, two years now?  But I think I have listened to a podcast, but played from a friend's computer through the stereo speakers.  Ricky Gervais, Stephen Merchant and Karl Pilkington = megafunnytimes : )

if you have itunes you can listen to it from there....or there is a way to do it on line, but like I said I've only just discovered them.

It literally took me nearly an hour before I could figure out how to download the podcasts to my ipod and then to be able to listen to them ::)

Some great podcasts suggestions. Here are the ones I listen to (with some overlap with those already mentioned):

-PRI: This American Life
-WNYC: Radio Lab
-WPR: To The Best of Our Knowledge
-Point of Inquiry
-PRI: The Sound of Young America
-NPR: Science Friday
-Vegetarian Food for Thought
-RISK!
-The Moth

I also always fall asleep to a podcast at night. Well, usually--sometimes it's just music.

Does anyone know what's up with the VeganFreak Radio podcast? I got really into it last September but it looks like they haven't had any new ones in a long time nor have they updated the website at all.

OK, bear with an idiot question from an old person: Is a podcast ONLY for those with an Ipod, or can you listen on an MP3player? Do you have to pay for them in order to download them, or are they free?

And what is an RSS feed?
OK, so that's 3 questions. But I don't have anyone to ask.

I LOVE "The Cosmopolitan Hour," KMK!!  It took me a couple episodes to really get into it, but now it makes me laugh so hard.  I love those girls.  On a recent episode, they gave this thread/VegWeb a shoutout for mentioning them!
