Chocolate Frosting

What you need:

1 cup sugar
6 tablespoons corn starch
4 tablespoons cocoa
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup water
2 tablespoons oil
1/2 teaspoon vanilla

What you do:

1. Mix sugar, cornstarch, salt, and cocoa in a medium sauce pan. Whisk in the water.
2. Heat over medium until it gets thick and starts to boil. Boil for 1-2 minutes. (Make sure you don't boil too long, or it will set like taffy.)
3. Remove from heat and stir in oil and vanilla. Cool and spread on cooled cake. Enjoy!

SO HOW'D IT GO?

This was my first time making frosting, so I was paranoid that I would boil it too long, and ended up not boiling it long enough, so its a bit too liquidy.  That being said, its still awesome!

I have never made my own frosting before, but I needed something for the super moist chocolate cake from this site.
I found it difficult to make as I don't own a proper tablespoon, but by did it turn out tasting - kinda like chocolate fudge frosting.
Yummy yummy, definitely a keeper.

This was simple and quick, and easy to spread,  but I didn't care for the taste. Tasted more like a bad pudding than a frosting.

it turned out like pudding. :(

You either put to much water in or you didn't cook it long enough. Keep stirring it with a whisk and keep picking up the whisk and see when it makes some peaks then take it off the fire immediately.

But you do have to be careful if you do cook it to long it does become unspreadable.

I love this recipe. Only thing to remember when making it is to reaaallly make sure you don't let it thicken too much! And it thickens really quick, so be careful. Otherwise it's perfect : )

And one more thing....DO NOT use this as a vanilla frosting recipe!! I left out the cocoa and added a splash of lemon juice. That seemed harmless, but what I got was a pot of stuff that tasted good, but looks a lot like rubber cement. Anyone remember those SNL comercials for Crystal Gravy?? Yeah--think Crystal Frosting. Ewwww. Any hints on why it turned from white to translucent at the last minute??
