Sumac Elderberry Tea

What you need:

2 tablespoons sumac berries
Dried elderberry flower, to taste
16 ounces boiling water
Sweetener, to taste

What you do:

1) Heat water until boiling. Pour over herbs and let steep for around 5 minutes. Strain, sweeten as desired, and enjoy.
Feel free to experiment by adding other ingredients like woodmint, using more berries, etc.
Source of recipe: A simple tea that tastes lovely around Summer. Staghorn or smooth sumac is this plant a very common ornamental and roadsider. In the late Summer or early Fall, upon touching the red berries and bringing them to your mouth, you'll notice it tastes sour, like lemon juice. You can take a couple bunches of berries, soak them up to an hour in cold water, then strain it through cloth and add sugar for local pink lemonade. I like to also boil the berries with dried elderberry flowers- this plant which flower in early to mid summer. Be careful you don't use red elderberry flower as opposed to the non-poisonous black, as in the photo.
