Tangy Baked Beans

What you need: 

1 to 2 tablespoons oil or vegan butter
1 medium onion, diced
1/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup ketchup
1/4 cup BBQ sauce
3 rounded tablespoons yellow prepared mustard
1 teaspoon liquid smoke
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1/2 teaspoon chili powder
2 (16 ounce) cans beans, rinsed and drained
1 (16 ounce) can vegan "pork and beans", undrained

What you do: 

1. Saute onions in oil until translucent, then sprinkle onions with some of the sugar and cook until caramelized.
2. Put the onions, sauce ingredients, spices and beans into a slow cooker and gently stir until combined.
3. Cook on high for 3 to 4 hours or low for 6 to 8. Adjust seasonings before serving.
