My cat keeps "yelling" at me!-Update Number 2
I know this is kind of stupid/funny to post but...I don't know what is up with her lately. For the past couple of weeks my sleep has been terrible because my cat keeps meowing really loud in my face. MEAH! MEAH! I'm sleeping and she's just standing next to me and MEAH! It sometimes scares me because she is so loud. It's always about an hour or two before my alarms goes off. It's not because she's hungry because I keep food out for her all the time and when I go to feed her in the morning there is always food still left in her bowl. Then by the time my alarm does go off she is sleeping next to me and if I "disturb" her by moving she yells some more. And not just once or twice. She'll yell with each move I make as I'm getting out of bed. It's really getting annoying and I'm about to ban her from my bedroom.
I think she needs a boyfriend. ;D

Yes she is. I too thought it was a weird heat cycle thing.
I don't know how long ago you had her spayed, but I wanted to share this with you. I had my cat spayed & a couple months later? (not sure of the time frame, cause it's been a while) she went into heat. I called the vet & told her my cat was meowing all night long like she was in heat. Vet says to bring her in. She informed me that she didn't get everything when she did the surgery & would have to operate again. ??? So I took her in and she's been fine since.
Anyway....maybe it's nothing as dramatic as that, but it's a thought. Cats do lots of weird things, like only puke on carpet for instance. :) I'd say if she keeps it up, take her to the vet for a check-up.
My Aunt's cat has gotten a little wild and crazy now that she has gotten older, close to 10 I think. At night She runs around the house, jumps into the empty tub, and yowls like crazy. She is an inside and outside cat, so maybe she just wants to be outside more often.
Cats can be crazy. Hope you get some sleep.
She was spayed about 3 years ago. It was after she had had a litter of kittens. Though I don't know if that has anything to do with anything.
I think it might be the earlier sunrises. I don't remember her doing this last year, but I may have just forgotten about it.
I do feel like she is lonely sometimes and would like to get her a friend but she hasn't done well with other cats once I brought her indoors (she was a stray and used to hang out with other cats outside).
She is just so much more vocal now. She was always a talker and meows if I speak to her, pet her, or sometimes even just look at her. She's just much louder about it now.

Oh yes. However, corporal cuddling is usually applied when she gets the urge to scratch at the couch. There are also the "belly slams" which are not actual slams but I hold her on my stomach and then fall backwards on the bed or couch. She always yells like she is so annoyed but the purrs always give her away. ;D
Actually, this may have something to do with it. My vet called me on the way home from work a little while ago and said that Wilma's urine test from Monday showed a lot of crystals. Maybe her MEAH! is really her telling me ME..ITHURTSWHENIPEE..AH! She is going back to the vet for an xray.

i was gonna suggest that! my fat girl kitty gets uber-talkative when she's sick...and she usually is trying to tell me just what your kitty is trying to tell you!

this post is making me miss my kitty :( i had to leave him home when i moved...
he'd always follow me around the house and talk to me.. especially when i was singing (he was probably telling me to shut up lol), and my mom's cat just walks around the house by himself with his little stuffed frog in his mouth meowing for hours

My vet said these were calcium crystals which are not "the normal" crystals. But she didn't say things were bad, just not so good. I hope she is not in any pain.

I'm using some homeopathics (30c) with success for the symptoms - frequent, unproductive urination, dribbling and excessive genital licking. We're using alternating doses of Cantharis, Utica urens, and Apis Melifica. (Note that the cantharis and apis are NOT vegetarian - one is made from beetles, the other bees.)
I actually hadn't noticed any of those symptoms. In the past my vet thought Wilma's urine was underconcentrated. She said it could be normal for an older cat, but because we don't know how old Wilma is, she wanted to keep and eye on it to be sure nothing was wrong. So I've been doing urine "check ups" and this time she found all these crystals. :(

Poor kitty :( Finding crystals in a cats urine I know can be do to a bladder or kidney infection. Has your vet mentioned anything about that?

She said there was a tiny bit of blood that showed up on the dip stick test but that she couldn't see any blood under the microscope. It's been like that for the past three tests now. The first time she put her on antibiotics just to see if it would help in case it was an infection. She is acting fine. A little lazy, but I think that might be from the heat. Her xrays are on monday and I'll know more than. Hopefully there are no stone and I can fix this easily.

Do you feed your cat wet food? Cats tend to not drink enough water which can lead to dehydration and/or kidney and bladder infections.... I know one way to make sure your kitty gets more water is to feed it wet food. I also have one of those fancy pet fountains for water. The cats are so interested in the fountain they end up drinking more water. I don't know if that is the issue or not, but I hope your kitty is okay. Let us know what shows up on the x-rays.

She usually only eats dry food and gets wet food as a treat from time to time. Today I put a little water in her dry food and gave her some canned food on the side. Funny about those water fountains. I got one for Wilma last year because she likes it when I fill up the sink with a little water for her, so I thought she would like one of those fountains. She wouldn't touch it until I unplugged it. I don't know if the noise bothered her or what. Personally, I think she was waiting for it to "fill up" so she could drink from it! ;D I ended up bringing it back to the store because unplugged, it was just a water bowl.
My more annoying cat does this to me constantly. She wants nothing to do with me except when I try to sleep. Lately she has taken to braying loudly and abruptly at me around 9am (I usually sleep to 10). Whats worse is that she does it while sitting two inches from my face - she scares the hole jebeezus out of me every time because there is no warning whatsoever. Seriously, the shock of it usually gives me a short spastic fit.
So I dropped Wilma off at the vet this morning to get xrays. I hate leaving her for the day because she is so scared. I brought her bed and some of her food because she will have to be in a cage all day. I just hope they don't find any stones or blockages and I can treat these crystals with a new diet or some medicine. I don't want her to have surgery. I know this is the best thing for her but when I have to fight her into the carrier and then she cries and looks at me with her eyes huge with fear, I feel terrible. :(
Biodancer, your kitty will be okay. Sometimes, when they do maitenence on my apartment I have to drop my kitties off at the vet for day-boarding. Sidra, the younger female, seems to enjoy it, at least not at first, but last time I walked into the vet to pick them up, they had them...not in a cage as I was expecting...but in this room, with a big window and all kinds of things to climb on. Sidra looked really excited and happy watching the cars go by outside, Scooter looked bored. I am not sure about your vet, but I know mine treats the pets very well. After the first day, I never worry about leaving them anymore.
But as far as the meowing problem, it is good you got her to the vet. But is she your only cat? I know that Scooter got very lonely after Shango died. It was 7 months (and about 4000 miles) later that I decided to get a new cat. Scooter had taken to wandering the apartment meowing, and yowling all night long. I never thought it was his health, I knew that he missed Shango. Well, I couldn't get Shango back, no matter how bad I would have liked to, so I went to the shelter and brought home Sidra. Now they are best friends, always play together, and Scooter no longer wanders and yowls all night long. I found that cats don't do so well as only pets, they really need companions.

I do like my vet. She is very good and thorough. They only treat cats there. Also the staff is very nice and they all like Wilma (she is very good when she goes to the vet). The doctor is very close friends with my fiance's family. In fact she is coming to the wedding.
As for a friend, I would really like to get Wilma a friend. She has been a single cat for the three years that I've had her. However, she doesn't seem to like other cats. In my last apartment my landlord's cat was semi-outdoors and would look in the windows at Wilma. When she saw him she would charge at the window and smack at the glass. One time they met in the hallway and she jumped him. When I moved in with my fiance, he had a cat and Wilma would stalk her and jump her. His cat has since passed away so she is a single cat again. When the other cat was there, Wilma spent most of the time upstairs in her room. So I am hesitant to get a new cat for fear of Wilma's reactions.
