Eat Drink and Be Vegan...

HI all!!

I ordered Dreena Burton's "Eat Drink and Be Vegan", and was wondering if anyone has it already?  It got great reviews on Amazon and seemed to be the most favored out of most of the cookbooks...I like her style and I have none of her other books so I was just wondering what you all thought!!  :) Take care-

Dafodil

I haven't yet but I've been thinking about it.  I'd be very interested to hear what you've liked.

I bought it just before we moved, but it's somewhere in a sea of boxes, so I haven't had a chance to use it yet.

I don't have the book, but I tried out her mellow lentil sniffle soup - it's great!

Love love LOVE this book! Every single cookie recipe is amazing (yes, I've tried most of them... ::)), as are all her soups. Her salad dressings are totally out of this world--my favorites are the Living Caesar Dressing and Honey Mustard (done in the creamy-style; there's also an option for a vinaigrette). The Caesar dressing is FAR superior to the one in Veganomicon, in my opinion.

I love Dreena--she is so creative, and just seems like the nicest person. I also like that she cooks with whole foods & uses natural sweeteners (agave, maple syrup, unprocessed sugar, etc.). A lot of vegan cookbooks do this, but not all.

I need to start trying more of her savory dishes because a lot of the time, I am drawn towards her dessert-type recipes. My favorite cookies in this book are the "You Got Peanut Butter in My Chocolate" Cookies. ;)b It's a silly name, but they are SO GOOD! I also find that oftentimes, I have to add a splash of soy milk to the cookie batters in order for them to mix properly, but that's no big deal.

Thanks for the review. I was contemplating buying this book when I was at the bookstore and  will consider it again, especially because the recipes call for natural sweeteners.

I got this book for Christmas.  This book has fewer recipes, but everything I've made from it has been great, and it's generally a little healthier fare than VWAV or Veganomicon.  It's also got a TON of wheat-free dishes, which is great because I'm trying to branch out and eat more different grains, and I love to bake things for my deprived gluten-free friends.

I *definitely* second JessaCita's recommendation for the caesar and honey mustard dressings - those have motivated me and my husband to eat even more salad!  This morning, I made the cocoa banana muffins, which are delicious and almost healthy enough to be a real breakfast.

But my *favorite* recipe from this book is still Moroccan phyllo rolls with balsamic maple sauce - which I've been making for a few months, because it's available online here:  http://www.vegan.com/recipes/vegancom-top-10-recipes-of-2008/moroccan-chickpea-vegetable-phyllo-rolls-vegancom-top-10-recipe-2008/  I make these appetizer-size for just about every potluckish party, and I have yet to bring them somewhere without an omni asking for the recipe.

This is the old ED&BV thread.  There is another one below that is longer and has more recipe reviews in it.

I will have to try those phyllo rolls.

Thanks for pointing that out jkl - sorry if I distracted you to an old dead thread.
