the BOOBS thread

written "BOOBS" and not "boobs" to maximize the semblance to boobs.

continued from the "'you're kind of heavy for a vegan'" thread. We were complaining about boob size, but anything boobs-related goes here. Complaints, praise, musings, whatever.

Way cool hopfrog! I think it's important that women see their breasts as beautiful! That's wonderful.

What kinds of alarms? Like what is your first reaction when you think someone has fake boobs?

Actually, my position on this topic has changed since I answered that.

Before I had always considered implants a sort of a generally unacceptable thing to do, as I thought that in most cases it was extreme form of vanity/extreme lack of self esteem. The other day however I realized that it is just a way to level the playing field in a society that places a ridiculous amount of value on being the "ideal" female figure, while not putting the same sorts of pressure on men to conform to an upheld physical standard and devaluing those that do not fit. If you put the ability out there to make it all equal, and unable to value one person more than another, then the value of the issue is greatly reduced, and you have taken a step toward gender equality.

It isn't really all that different than guys who load up on special protein mixes/muscle happy drugs and go trotting off to the gym - just more expensive and intrusive. Now to that end, as someone who doesn't like coming in contact with chemicals (medications, cleaners, some plastics, etc), I still really would not care for breasts of the current type of implants because of an aversion to to having bags of chemicals placed in one's body.  I really do not care for either form of body modification, but I wholly understand the desire to do so. Along with that, I suspect it just emotionally wouldn't quite be the same for me as actual tissue in intimacy situations. I would much rather touch someone and know that what I am feeling is "them". The next generation of implants that they are working on which are grown from a sample of your own tissues: no problem with that.

I think it is too bad that implants have largely been associated with MTV idiots and porn stars, as it seems they are dragging the whole image of implants down, or at least for me I think that is where I got my negative image of implants from.

well, I don't know what they would do to me....probably just get a lift since I have plenty of filler??  but if I needed implants to hoist them up, I wouldn't be against it...

you don't need implants for a lift. in fact, they can do a reduction & a lift too.

I still don't like my big knockers, but I'm not sure I want to go under the knife to make 'em smaller. Sometimes I think it would be nice to be able to sit up straight for more than 10 minutes.

Every single damned sport I do I find out having big boobs is a pain in the ass. In softball I had to work around them to swing. In basketball they got elbowed, knocked around, and I had to wear 2 sports bras. In volleyball, I felt like I had to bump around them and they flopped around when I spiked. In track and cross country, I had to wear 2 sports bras to keep them from bouncing everywhere. For yoga, they flopped around in upside down poses unless I braed up. AND NOW, NOW in rock climbing, when I'm top roping, the rope hits them and bumps them and rubs between them.

BOOOOOOBS! I must get rid of them.

I was looking at bras last night.
Looking at bras means me running around grabbing them all and giggling.

I did not find one. Aha.

VR. You said you're a 30 right? Do you only get bras online? I HAVE NEVER SEEN A 30 IN A STORE THAT ISN'T AN A IN LITTLE GIRLS AND THAT WILL NOT DOOOO.
Also. I can see how that would get annoying.

I know not everyone is as fortunate, but I just got professionally "fitted" for this first time since before my pregnancy. My daughter is still being breastfed (she's 13 months). And guess what? My breasts are exactly the same size as before. I really can't tell any difference either - same perkiness, not saggy. Maybe that will change when she's done? Hmmm...

This study (albeit small) found that while number of pregnancies was related to sagging breasts, breastfeeding was not. The link points to the abstract, but this was in the body of the paper:

Pregnancy was seen to be a risk factor for the development of breast ptosis, and the degree of ptosis was seen to worsen with the number of pregnancies. However, a history of breast-feeding was not associated with a higher degree of ptosis. Women consulting a plastic surgeon for postpartum body contouring will often attribute loss of breast shape or volume to breast-feeding, and, in published reports, concerns over changes in breast appearance are consistently ranked among the important reasons why women decide to forgo breast-feeding. These beliefs cross cultural and socioeconomic boundaries. In a survey of high school girls in Italy, 30% of respondents expressed the belief that breast-feeding “makes breasts ugly.”4 In a survey of 220 new mothers in the Dominican Republic, concerns over “loss of breast shape” was given as the second most important reason for early termination of breast-feeding.16 Additional studies are needed to better understand the relationship, if any, between breast-feeding and adverse breast shape, but if the findings in this study hold true, women should be reassured that breast-feeding does not seem to worsen breast ptosis, beyond the effects of pregnancy alone.

yeah, i've read that it's more about going from pregnant to non-pregnant rather than breastfeeding or length.

I don't know...my boobs have gone from being engorged with milk to being empty several times now.  Pregnancy definitely made them bigger but breastfeeding seems to be wearing them out.  Who knows?  Maybe I'm just paranoid, that's why I'm mainly just "considering" the boob job at this point - the end of nursing Maia is still a long ways off.  We'll see how I feel then.

My husband definitely enjoys my bigger breasts now, even though he can't "play" with them as much.  He says it's amazing how big they got.  I was pretty small before pregnancy and never thought I'd enjoy having bigger breasts, but I have been.  It makes me feel more feminine and sexy than I ever did before even though I was comfortable and happy with them then.

What is "getting your boobs fitted" ??

Ha. Guess I didn't word that right. Getting fitted for a bra is what I meant.

You're still a relatively new postpartum mom, your breasts may still be getting accustomed to nursing....like you say, you may be/feel completely different when you wean. Even though I'm still nursing 8 times a day, my breasts feel and look like they did when I wasn't lactating.

I'm 5'6 and weigh only 135 lbs. I have a D cup and it makes me miserable. They're too big for my frame and working out is hard to do.

But... I do like being naked. :)
