Contemplating a move...

My hubby and I are considering moving to the West Coast for a job opening. We're both from the East Coast and as such, know very little about the places in consideration. Can anybody tell me anything (positive or negative) about any of these places? Any veggie-specific advice is greatly appreciated too :) (ie. proximity of veggie restaurants/groceries, veggie-friendliness, etc.)

bellingham is very green and beautiful...I believe they filmed twin peaks there
santa maria if Im correct, is in the cenrtal valley of california...and Im not a fan of that area. its very hot and ugly yellow dead california looking. plus california is overrated

Santa Maria gets a lot of fog. It is VERY pretty there and VERY expensive. All of California is a competitive culture but that chuck is more so, so unless you're making 100k plus, don't even think bout it lol. The minute you move in, all your neighbors will be looking up your financial situation. That's the kind of place it is. The friends you make will be according to what car you drive ect. Still, some people love that.
Belllingham is pretty. It's a suburb of Seattle. Wayyyy laid back without Californias pasive-agressive culture. It's blue collar, gets lots of rain, a lot cheapeer than Santa Maria of course.
Newport is right on the coast so it's always windy and raining. I mean ALWAYS lol.
Port Angelos is a surprisingly unpretty town (rare for the Olymic Peninsula) on the north coast of Olympic Peninsula.The only thing good about it is it has a ferry to Vancouver Island.
Quick note bout the mentioned Clifornia Central Valley. I's dismal, I wouldn't live there for free. Dry, hot, polluted, garbage. It used to be a vacant desert untill they brought mountain water in to grow fruit trees. Only fruit trees should live there.

i would NOT say that bellingham is a sub of seattle-- it is too far north for that! (it is on the CAN boarder). it is a college town, very nice. Port Angeles is nice, but i have a fondness for the peninsula. i am a fan of washington, so there you go! people are mega laid back out in the NW and know how to recycle.

ummm... i think i disagree with both the posts about santa maria.
i live 1/2 hour north of SM and i would NOT say it is a 'rich' area. in fact, i would say the opposite. now, there may be different areas of it, but all i have experienced is lower income kind of atmosphere. plus, i work and go to school in san luis obispo and know people who live out there to save money.
that being said, i doubt it is very veg friendly and it isn't the most beautiful place... BUT depending on what kind of weather you like it is usually warm. there is also a lot of stuff in the general vicinity (but you would have to drive).

Ouch! I have visited friends in Santa Maria and they're definitely not making 100K or driving the luxury cars. They're middle income, unpretentious and live happily, modestly, in their family home.
