What did you learn today?

.

As for me;
I was curious about why white chocolate is white, so I wiki'd it, found that it was the lack of theobromine (found in cocoa, which white chocolate has none of, except cocoa butter), which I turned and read up on, and found this:

The amount of theobromine found in chocolate is small enough that it can be safely consumed by humans, but animals that metabolize theobromine more slowly, such as dogs, can succumb to theobromine poisoning from as little as 50 grams of chocolate for a smaller dog and 400 grams for an average-sized dog. The same risk is reported for cats as well, although cats are less likely to ingest sweet food, having no sweet taste receptors.

So I learned why chocolate is bad for animals, and that cats have no sweet taste receptors! Pssht, yeah right they don't, why else would mine be constantly licking me?  ;)

Haven't seen any ninja turtles yet, be I'll be sure to let you know if I do!

Today I learned that, like others, I'm jealous of PK and his treehouse.

Today I learned that black dirt does come off of a toddler  :) and that there are tabs that you can push in at the end of the aluminum foil, plastic wrap roll that hold it in place so that when you pull out a sheet the whole roll doesn't fall out.  How ignorant of me that I never noticed that before!

Today I learned that the pretty blue colour and the gold glowy thing in the sky weren't just a dream... they came back for part of today! And I still remember their names. Life is not all clouds and drizzle and rain. :P :( :) ???

I have a cheap Oster blender that I got after my beloved blue light-up one croaked on me. It's really loud and annoying, and isn't as good at emersion as my last one, but it gets the job done. The on/off button also doubles as a pulse button. So when it's blending on one of the other speeds and I go to shut it off, I have to press the pulse button (which is REALLY loud and quick), and then pull the button back out for it to turn off.

Lesson of story: Things must always get worse before they can get better. Thank you, wise $20 blender. You remind me every day to be patient.

I learned that you can also find a poem by your favorite poet, mine is Sylvia Plath, anagrammed into a paraphrase that is also an acrostic on the poet's name.

Sheep in Fog

The hills step off into whiteness.
People or stars
Regard me sadly, I disappoint them.
The train leaves a line of breath.
O slow
Horse the color of rust,
Hooves, dolorous bells----
All morning the
Morning has been blackening,
A flower left out.
My bones hold a stillness, the far
Fields melt my heart.

    The Lost Lamb

Snowy mountains go by. Masses or planets probe me,
Yearning, lamenting, then ill-tempered.
Locomotive releases the noble
Veil. Oh, tired stallion,
Its torso red,
All flaked off;
Puffs, his hops unstable,
Lifeless----
Ah, the clear dawn dies,
The rose forlorn. High hopes frost -
How I long for the earth.

I learned that when you see your very best friend in the world after 14 years, that tears stream down your face at an alarming rate.

Today I saw my friend Janet.  We have been best friends since we were 4.  So best friends for 46 years.  She turned 50 in January.  I turned 50 a couple of weeks ago.

She is my friend that many of you prayed for last year when she nearly died.  This may very well have been our last visit.  She is very fragile now and still very ill.  She told me I looked no more than 40.  I barely recognized her.  She looks like she is in her 60's.  Some people where she lives have actually asked her if she is going to use her seniors card.

We live clear across the country from each other.

I also learned that when I said 46 years ago that she would always be my best friend, I meant it!

Being with her today, laughing about all the silly things we did and talking about our lives now made me realize how much I love her.  That no matter how our lives have changed, the different paths we have in life, we will always love each other.  I can tell her anything and she does not judge me and vice versa.

Sadly she planned this trip with her husband thinking I would be around because I never take summer vacation (it was the only time they could get away).  Unfortunately, I am going on vacation in a couple of days.

In a few days, I will appreciate that Caribbean Reef sharks don't eat people!  ;D

I learned that I feel the same way about my best friend as Di does about hers...and Di's learning experience made me cry.

I hope you have a great vacation. :)

today i learned that one of my good friends does not read the Humane Society emails i send. she does that Take Action emails (some of them anyway), which is great, but she doesn't read them.
>:( this really disappoint me.
Joining HSUS and getting all their emails on their campaigns was a major influence in how i learned about animal rights & being an advocate.
i send them to some friends in hope they would read them and become more aware.

Thanks so much for the vacation wishes.  Can't wait to be in the ocean with lots of sharks around me.  I miss them.

I have been sad today since hugging Janet goodbye.  If she is still alive next year and can fly, she would like to come and stay at my place for a week.  I pray to God she is still on this earth.  I will give her my bedroom and even if the week is just sitting on the end of the bed talking and laughing with her, it will be a wonderful week.

I will try to get my place finished and suggest she comes in January or February.  A crappy cold time here but a crappy cold time where she lives too.  Early in the year is better because eventually, the airlines won't let her fly and I am scared if it is later in the year, she won't still be here.

Glad you learned today what your best friend means to you.  We so often take our friends for granted.  When push comes to shove, life without a best friend is lacking in something very important.  A best friend doesn't judge.  A best friend forgives.  A best friend loves you no matter what.

Sorry I made you cry.  Unless they were happy tears. :-)

Today I learned that a florist cannot possibly have too many bunches of spring flowers when they're as cheap as they are now.

I can almost still smell the glorious* Early Cheer narcissi narcissuses that I was putting out today... :)>>> :)>>> :)>>>

* I don't often use the word 'glorious'! Not lightly ;D

I just learned that I only have $890.00 left to pay on my daughter's braces.  Finally, I can see the light at the end of the $4800.00 tunnel!!
