What moves you?

I was thinking about this topic when I was driving home tonight. What moves you? Sure..a lot of us post what grinds our gears or makes us smile, frown, proud, and feel slanty. But what moves you? What, at the end of the day, touches your core and refreshes you?

Is there an object? A quote? An action? A song? A memory? What moves you to have that moment of inner peace..where things are aligned? Obviously, these things can change based on where you are that day or time in your life. I'll start.

Two things for today:

1) I listened to Barber's "Adagio for Strings" again tonight. Each time I listen to it, it just reaches me and will sometimes move me to tears. It just helps me sigh and realize it's okay.

2) I've posted my anger with my dad here in the forums. Tonight he called me and we talked. He's moved to another state and to another company because he wanted to change his direction and outlook on life. It's hard to fully describe. But, for once, my dad said "yes" to life and chose to go for it.

As I thought about this topic and the news of my dad challenging himself to get out of his rut, it moved me. My dad sounded so happy on the phone. He's scared it won't work but he's ready for the challenges. At this moment in time, I'm actually proud of my dad.

pm- yeah duhhhhh

Silly me. :P

I just recently rediscovered Michael Jackson's song "Earth Song". When I first heard it, as a kid, it moved me. Now that how I see myself and the world has changed, the song kicks me in the chest and wakes me up. Love it!

Walking home from shopping I saw an old man carrying a little doglet of the Maltese type. The tender way he held it in one arm and caressed its ears with his free hand told me just how vitally important the  doglet is to his life. It was so sweet.

animals...my husband and I volunteer with rescue orgs and seeing an animal looking at you with those big eyes...disarming.  Probably how we ended up with three dogs and are currently fostering another one.  ;D

Stories of individual charitable acts move me and force me to wonder if what I give back is enough.

Selflessness

I've recently noticed a kid (couldn't be more than 19-20 works at 3 fast food restaurants near my house.  Say what you will about the work, but he's obviously got obligations and is striving to meet them.

When I was rehabbing from a knee injury, my 9 year old son (step son actually, but I refer to him as my son, as his father isn't in his life and he's been my ward for 5 years) saw me working out in the front room and wordlessly came into the room and started doing push ups and curls.

While waiting to see the neurosurgeon, I saw a woman about my age with her daughter in a wheelchair. The girl was about 20 or so, and actually beautiful, but whatever neurological issues she had twisted her body to the place that she could hardly sit up in the chair. Her arms were stiffly splayed and she couldn't draw her tongue into her mouth. Nurses etc are usually pretty overworked, hurried and downright cold here, but people were so kind to her and her mom. Every nurse who passed had a smile for the girl and a word for mom. Her mother stood there talking to her as if she were fine, telling her what they were going to do after, smoothing her hair and wiping the drool from her cheek.

Note to self: Never complain again. About anything. Ever.

oh Yabbit, people can be so wonderful sometimes. It's so refreshing to see the goodness in humanity.

This teacher and his students move me:
