What moves you?

I was thinking about this topic when I was driving home tonight. What moves you? Sure..a lot of us post what grinds our gears or makes us smile, frown, proud, and feel slanty. But what moves you? What, at the end of the day, touches your core and refreshes you?

Is there an object? A quote? An action? A song? A memory? What moves you to have that moment of inner peace..where things are aligned? Obviously, these things can change based on where you are that day or time in your life. I'll start.

Two things for today:

1) I listened to Barber's "Adagio for Strings" again tonight. Each time I listen to it, it just reaches me and will sometimes move me to tears. It just helps me sigh and realize it's okay.

2) I've posted my anger with my dad here in the forums. Tonight he called me and we talked. He's moved to another state and to another company because he wanted to change his direction and outlook on life. It's hard to fully describe. But, for once, my dad said "yes" to life and chose to go for it.

As I thought about this topic and the news of my dad challenging himself to get out of his rut, it moved me. My dad sounded so happy on the phone. He's scared it won't work but he's ready for the challenges. At this moment in time, I'm actually proud of my dad.

Reading non-fiction Nazi stories. They always inspire me to be a better person because they help me realise that I'm lucky to have the things that I have and live in a country that allows me the freedom I have.

Noam Chomsky. I've been watching all sorts of videos featuring this man. While I don't agree with him 100%, I agree with him on a lot of issues. Some things I've even said before I ever knew of him.

Two songs hit me this weekend. "Tiger Mountain Peasant Song" by Fleet Foxes and "This Is Why We Fight" by The Decemberists hit me like a sack of bricks.

As I drove to the beach this weekend, I listened to these songs and I thought of what's been going on in my own world and the world itself. I thought of the angry and despicable things people have said and done while talking to me on the phone at work. I thought of how people treat each other in communities here and abroad. I thought of the unjust wars and fights started amongst ourselves and worldwide.

While the songs blared into my ears and my mind played through thoughts, I wondered, what's going on with ourselves and to our fellow worldly inhabitants? What is being done to our earth? Why is there always taking from those who need help who have nothing? Why is there taking from those who have worked so hard to earn what they thought was their piece of the pie? Why must there always be deconstructing or destroying or degrading? Why must there always be talk of dissonance and never accord?

I'll probably never ever have an answer for these things. And if I ever come close, it'll be just that.....close. These things I wondered this weekend will never have a clear-cut answer. I preach the fact that the world is full of grey. But this weekend, it just hit me (again) that all is connected and that we must be in tune with this. We must stop the vicious cycle of hate and negativity within ourselves and pass it on to another and have them pass it on and so on. This is what moves me at this time.

This has been River's favorite song for 2 years... (half her life) she knows all the words, and it is cute/creepy when she sings "i don't know what i have done, i'm turning myself into a demon" although you and i both know she is at least 25% demon.

What?!!!!??! River is an angel and I loved every moment with her..even if I lost my patience from time to time. We had a lot of fun, I think.
