You are here

I wasn't going to come on line until I had 7 smoke free....+

days.  I have screwed up but am desperately working on it.

I just wanted everyone in the Toronto, Ontario area to know about the Toronto Vegetarian Food Fair.

Here is the link:
http://veg.ca/content/view/52/83/

I went a few years ago and it was great.

Di

You can do it, Di!  GO get the patch, it helps soooooo much with the "I need to kill something" urges.  F**k cold-turkey...didn't work for me AT ALL.  I'm on day 8...can you believe it?  I made a whole week!!!  Days 2-4 are the worst, by far.

You did it before, you can't tell me that 14 years of gaining wisdom has made you a weaker person....
I joined an on-line support community that you log in every morning with "I'm in for day ____."  and "Today is really hard"  look into that.  It helps because you kind on have some accountability, but from people who won't lose faith in you if you slip (I had someone ask me yesterday "how many times have you quit now, five or six?")  Which, BTW for any non-smokers reading this, is sort of like asking someone who said they were on a diet why they haven't lost the weight yet.  Really sh**ty.

Go Di...GO Di....Go Di....GO Di....

If you e-mail me I'll send you some helpful links and harp on you, if you'd like (raika at inorbit.com)

Di, nutdragon is right. GO GET THE PATCH! There is no way in hell that I could have quit without the patch. It took away all my cravings. It really did. September 2nd will be 5 months that I haven't touched a cigarette.
Cigarettes still have a pull on me after all this time. I had a dream the other night that I went out & bought a pack....then smoked them. Vivid dream, I could taste it & feel it sucking the air out of my lungs....I was choking in my dream. Thank god I woke up. It is a psychological battle that we, as ex-smokers will have, probably for the rest of our lives. Show that stupid Nicodemon that you are stronger than it.
Join an online support group. There are many out there. I have a great one if you want the link.

YOU CAN DO IT!

Only God is perfect.
I too have major screwed up on the OTC meds thing.
But it has cooled down, and my obnoxious soul-destroying vampire of a student is finally gone.
So tomorrow is another day.
Yes, tonight I am going to drug myself up to the eyeballs with Unisom---and SLEEP.
Monday I buy new tennies with my ill-gotten booty (money, you teenagers!  ;D) or perhaps my ill-booten gotty, and then there Will be exercise!
Tomorrow I start yoga-ing again.

We can do this. We can. We can.
Tell Cali I love her.

Please, please, please quit.
Both my Dad and my Father in Law died at age 49 from lung cancer after being smokers for many years.
I wouldn't want my worst enemy to go through that, let alone a fellow veggie  ;)
Sending you lots of positive thoughts and hugs

Hey Yabbit girl,

But it has cooled down, and my obnoxious soul-destroying vampire of a student is finally gone.

Oh my gosh is that funny. I have at least a couple of them every quarter. Unfortunately they always stick out in my memory as strongly as the passionate happy to be furthering their education students. Oh well.

I'm sure you're getting all kinds of advice, but I've heard from a couple different people lately that meditation helped a lot.  Not sure if you're into that kind of thing, but it's worth a shot!

First realize that's one of the most hardest things to do but it can be done.

There's some who say smoking has to do with worrying about alot of things. I don't know  if that's true but if it is try not to worry.

I say try keep putting it off. In other words when the mood hits say ok I'll smoke in an hour. When the hour comes say again I'll smoke in another hour. Keep putting it off until the mood goes away. Or take sips of water when your in the mood.

Or even make up or get a delicious scrumptious non alcoholic drink recipe and have that around when you want to smoke.

Good Luck.

Yes, I am sure stress plays a large role.  Cali doesn't appear to be getting better and it has been over 6 weeks.
My best friend that was dying started to improve somewhat but would still live a life of pain.  She had a huge setback and the next 48 hours are critical.  She has been prodded and poked so much in the last 19 years that they can not find a vein that won't collapse.
On going home renovations and clutter hasn't helped....  Just lots of stuff going on.
I do believe smoking is a crutch and not a good one.
I will continue to try to quit.

I told Cali!  Thanks so much and try to continue to not take the OTC things.  I am rooting for you!

Thanks for the article Liz.  I am going to try cold turkey one more time with the health food store supplements.  If that doesn't work, I will look into getting the patch.  Is it a prescription or can you just buy it at the drugstore?
I put my new food processor on the counter but haven't tried it yet because it is my reward for quitting smoking.
You are doing great!

Just think......fresh hummus, quick salsa, homemade falafel, onions with no tears are all in your future. :D

I know that you can do it Di.  :)

You are so sweet Liz but no. NO to hummus.  I don't like it.  Love chick peas, hate hummus.  Although maybe I should try it again as I haven't had it in a few years.

I once hated turnips but love them now.

No tear onions sound great.  I love onions.

Keep up the good work too.  You are doing amazingly well!

Actually it is Taneva here and you should definitely try hummus again. Especially hummus that you make and can control the ingredients. I don't like store bought  at all but I love mine and have turned many of my friends on to it.

Can you tell I woke up at 4:00am and it is now nearly 8:00am.  Yes, I knew it was you and yet..... ???  So sorry!

I have never had store bought hummus.  I have had it in restaurants and then tried everyone's that say...but you will love mine.  Not!

Same goes for scalloped potatoes.  I would rather eat a cold boiled potato than a scalloped potato.  I would rather eat a raw potato.  I love potatoes but scalloped potatoes are the only way I can not tolerate them.

I have to think it is the spices I don't like in hummus.  Some guy on a cooking show the other day made a white bean hummus and it actually looked good.

My BF and I watched the show and now I don't remember what show it was.  I will have to ask him if he remembers because I can then go to the Food Network and google the recipe.  My BF loves cooking shows and I think we watched about 5 in a row.

If you have time, why don't you post your recipe.  Maybe if I made it myself, I would appreciate it more.  Or really dislike it like all the other times I have tried it!  ;D
