Quitting Smoking Group

How's it going? I'm officially 24 hours smoke free. I'm dyin..but Im getting through it. Major babbling via AIM and the phone  to my friends has helped me tremendously today.

I read an article in a magazine the other day and one of the things they said was kinda cool..it was about "riding the crave wave" instead of ignoring it..it's based on a Buddhist theory..basically if there is something you want now, in a few moments you will no longer want it. Better to "look into why you want it" and ride out the feeling than to attempt to ignore it.

How are all of you doing?

I quit about 3 years ago...had to start Wellbutrin (an antidepressant given to help smokers quit) to finally kick the habit  :(

It had horrible side effects, really flattens you out, but it did work...after about a month of taking it, I had no interest in smoking, or anything else!  Wouldn't recommend it unless you absolutely can't do it any other way.

I have a knitting addiction now, and wish I would have tried it before taking the drug....it not only keeps your hands busy, but you don't want to smoke around all the nice expensive yarn and stink up your project!  :)  I'd HIGHLY recommend taking up knitting while quitting smoking!

Ooh, I just remembered a very good article on all of the good things that happen to your body after you quit smoking (including IMMEDIATE benefits).  This one is not disturbing like my last ones, so please read for inspiration!

Hang in there!

So, you have more immediate things to look forward to if you quit now besides just freaking out about not being able to smoke.

hehehe..this made me giggle at the end of the article.
