new vegan finds!

i'd like to start a thread of new things you happen across or discover that are vegan.  i browse around in the grocery store quite a bit, reading labels, and sometimes find some pretty interesting and surprising vegan foods!

so anyway, one i found this weekend is....banana babies!  they're from diana's bananas and the dark chocolate ones are vegan.  they're just frozen bananas dipped in chocolate, but..mmmm.  the chocolate is a tiny bit waxy, but all in all, i thought it was a pretty good find.

also, many of marie calendar's fruit pies are vegan as well, which is awesome for a yummy, fatty dessert when i don't feel like making one, haha...

anyone else been finding something cool and yummy?

cool - thanks sarah!  so smart...

My brother sent me this link of weird food additives and things. He sent it because of this:

"You know that shiny coating on candies like Skittles? Or the sprinkles on cupcakes and ice cream sundaes? Well, they get that glaze from the secretions of the female lac beetle. The substance is also known as shellac and commonly used as a wood varnish."

However, shellac is not listed on the ingredients? But wikipedia says its used in skittles (when looking up shellac). I'm thinking it might have been in the older versions and it's just not updated, or they dont have to list it?

maybe the skittles reference is old because i know if seen shellac listed as an ingredient before (on other products).  confectioners glaze might be another name for it cus i know thats used alot on candies & is bug derived.

i forgot to mention - i also got faux honey at the asian market - it looks just like it but i havent tried it yet.

yeah, red #__ and all the other #s in the states tends to be petroleum byproducts. Not very tasty sounding, but technically vegan. Bug coloring will be called "carmine" or "cochineal." I hear that it goes by a numbered name in the UK though...

The other day i was looking around the frozen food section (as i often do in hopes that more people will make vegan food)
And actually found something new!
Healthy choice makes all natural entrees now (with no preservatives!)
I found one vegan one, Sweet Asian Potstickers. It looks good, havent tried it yet.
They have some vegetarian ones also (but be careful, i did see one or 2 with gelatin)
And it was like half the price of Amys meals so. yay!

i didn't like the sweet asian potstickers much :(
