Hello Awesome People Who Know VegWeb Best!
As I'm getting to know the site and learning as much as I can, I thought I'd take a moment to get opinions on any changes you'd like to see. What do you like? Love? Want to throw out a window? Anything and everything! It's obvious the community is active and vibrant and so I KNOW you have some opinions! Let's hear 'em!

is there any way to make the "show unread posts since last visit" link on the left of the screen separate for the forums and the recipe reviews?
i will think about this more. i know i've thought of plenty of things in the past, but i'll have to remember and see if it still applies.

I agree with fixing the Search......it takes forever to find what you're looking for
could we get a function to search within a thread (although that might defeat the point of the 'review' threads)
also can you make my text permanently purple, pretty please?
omg fix the search. i can NEVER find crap. i gave up on the "advance search" but it would be cool if you could say "find X in the boards or in recipes" or where ever. if i want to find a recipe for using beets, it would be great to get only recipes in my search instead of recipes mixed with chat about beets.
also, an option not to have a "preview" of a thread in the search results would be good. often i know what the recipe is called more or less but can't find it. i don't want to look/wade though all the other info on the page all the time.

eta: I think I thought of it. Quoting a post automatically puts it into quick reply, and I don't always want that..because I can't remember all the smiley code to use one. I sometimes just copy the quote out of the quick reply box, and into a reply box..so I can see all the smileys. You know?

Yes, I've always thought searching within a thread would be helpful.
Also, we used to have a page with product reviews. Some of us added reviews but the whole feature disappeared at some point. Since then, AC has been taking on the mammoth task of compiling reviews manually in threads, but it was much more efficient when you could just add a product/add a review to an existing product. (Plus it would be nice to get back that data that was already entered...)
eta: AC, hit the preview button on quick reply and it will bump you into the regular reply window.
id like to have the ability to fix my typos in other peoples posts when they quote me.
that way when i spell "acts" as "acks" people won't see it... ::)

I'm not crazy about the forum software in general, and the format of the forums. I kind of feel like it could use more of a breakdown than "food - meetups - everything else." The everything else gets kind of out of control and I just don't feel like sifting through it. That's probably the #1 reason I am not more active on the forums. Everyone's really nice and all, I just take a look at the forums and kind of go "ack!" and go do something else instead. I think it should also be more clear on the front page that there ARE forums. I used vegweb for years before I knew it had forums. I read "VegFriends" as a dating sort of thing, and never clicked it.
I agree with bp on the search thing too. I'd like it if you could JUST search recipes (not posts, not reviews of recipes), or JUST search posts.
I can see where an "ignore user" button would be helpful at times.

plus an option for searching both.. like you could click the boxes of which areas you wanted to search. sometimes i like when i search for an ingredient and find a really great suggestion someone made for it in a thread not remotely related to the thread topic.

hehe I'm glad I'm not the only one who took forever to know about forums! It's so true! :)
I would kind of like to see a section dedicated to "adult" topics, so they aren't all over. I know people like to say "just don't open the thread if the topic offends you" but still, just my humble opinion. :)
Also, 100% agree with all comments on the search feature!
These are all excellent suggestions, please keep them coming! I'm making a list of user requests and I really hope we can make the site even more fantastic and user-friendly.
Personally, I completely agree with the search issues! Can be very frustrating!
Are there any sites with forums that you like the look and usablity of?
I'd like to see the site become more user-friendly and a little easier on the eye. Sometimes it is hard to find the right button to click on, let alone the recipes you want!
The search thing is the main thing with me. Searching within certain boards, or recipe categories (say i have silken tofu and want a dessert but dont know what type)
And possibly making recipes in more than one category? They could pick up to 3 categories matbe? (so it doesnt get out of hand, where the same recipe is everywhere.) Like, if some one has a quick and easy tofu recipe, it can also go under tofu, and chicken (in meat subs).
