My Sisters Keeper by Jodi Piccoult. I warn you, amazing book, AMAZING. It's emotion inducing. I'll leave it at that. And blech, of course, Hollywood had to make a damn movie. I have not, and will not see it, the book is fabulous on it's own.

The Time Traveler's Wife, Love in the Time of Cholera, Away (Jane Urquehart), the Shipping News, Sweetness in the Belly...

Definitely the Time Traveler's Wife. I just finished it - I can hardly explain how good...  If you read it, you'll know what I mean.

i have trouble reading, so i like really simple books that i can finish quickly.  i really liked marley and me.  my moms friend wrote it, but it became a best seller.  its just a really cute book thatll make you laugh and cry.  its an easy read, but its also a true story, and if you've ever had a dog, its real easy to relate to.

Thanks guys for the ideas, I will read about them this weekend and pick something.  I have read Marley and Me(loved it), I've read a few by Bill Bryson, and he is great.  The rest I haven't read.

I really liked that book.  I just wished is had ended long before it did.  There were a couple of unnecessary chapters.

I like a lot of sci fi type books so I don't have that much to recommend.  I'm currently reading The Last Juror by John Grisham.  It's good so far.  I've never read any of his books before but a lot of people recommend him.
Memoirs of a Geisha and The Lovely Bones are really good to if you haven't already read them.

Cold Sassy Tree - Olive Ann Burns
The God of Small Things - Arundhati Roy
Unaccustomed Earth - Jhumpa Lahiri

Does it have to be "literature?"  If not, I liked Folly by Laurie R. King.

My favorites are Lord of the Flies, The Jungle, and Breakfast of Champions (which I read for a book club).

The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver. Best book I have ever read, hands down.

I think I've read it twenty-five times and it just keeps amazing me.

Also, I love The Brothers K by David James Duncan.

Ooooh! The Bean Trees is good too, and so is the sequel, Pigs in Heaven.

I haven't read the Prodigal Summer. Maybe this summer.

I'm so glad to find someone else who liked the Poisonwood Bible. I've given it to a lot of people to read and they all seem to either love it or hate it.

Well, if you like historical fiction then there is the Earth's Children's series by Jean M Auel.

I have read that series of books twice, love them, but they do kill a lot of animals in them, I tend to disagree that they really ate that much meat in those days, but if you can overlook that they are exceptional books.

Of course, how can you forget the Harry Potter books, well written books, a bit slow in spots, kind of stupid in others, but all in all they are pretty good books, very entertaining.

There was also a very good book I read one time, but I can not remember the name or who wrote it, maybe somebody else can.  I found it in the Junior section of the library.  It is about a boy who becomes friends with a dragon, the dragon goes on a journey with this boy to find...somebody. They meet animal friends along the way, a cat and a rat, if I remember correctly who join them on the journey..oh yeah, the rat flew in this little plane.  Shoot, it has been a long time.  There was this golden dragon who was the bad guy.  Boy I wish I could remember more because it was such a good story.  Does anybody else know what book I am talking about?
