Brownies

What you need:

2 cups flour (I use enriched and whole wheat), divided
1 cup water
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
3/4 cup baking cocoa
1/2 cup vegetable oil
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 cup chopped nuts, optional
1/2 cup vegan chocolate chips, optional

What you do:

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F, and grease an 11x7" pan. Boil water and 1/2 cup of the flour over low heat, stirring constantly, until it reaches the consistency of a thin gluey paste. Remove from heat and let cool completely.
2. Mix vegan brown sugar, granulated sugar, salt, vanilla, cocoa and oil. Then add the flour and water mixture. Mix well.
3. Add the remaining 1 1/2 cups flour, baking powder, nuts, and chocolate chips.
4. Spread mixture into prepared pan. Bake for 25 minutes, or until a knife can be inserted and come out clean.
This was a really easy, and really tasty recipe. I gave some to my friends and they fell in love with them. They keep asking me to make more. I thought of maybe putting some chocolate frosting on them, but they were perfect without it. Enjoy.'

SO HOW'D IT GO?

Made these tonight and they came out awesome!  I had to bake them a couple of minutes longer because they were a little too gooey in the middle.  These are my first brownies since going vegan a year ago.  I think they were a great veganniversary present to myself!

I took my first batch to work and they were gone within minutes so I am making my second batch now :)

:)>>> :)>>> :)>>> :)>>> I love you for this. I love, love loooooooooooove you for this~! XD Seriously, I've tried to make vegan brownies with other recipes before and.... epic phailure. X3 But this one actually turned out~!  ;)b and not only that, but it tastes AMAZING~! At first I thought it wasn't sweet enough, but I added the leftover veggie choco chips I had in the cupboard (I ate most of them when I was on my period  :P) and a too-sugary vegan caramel sauce that I found on this site and it came out perfect~~ I'm making these for my friends and will update you on how they like em~! ^^ (But I'm sure they'll love them just as much as I do~~~)

I have made this recipe three times, and I cannot get enough. The first time I baked it, I took it to work to share with my coworkers. It was a huge hit! Today, I am making this for a potluck birthday party and I am sure they will love it as well.

Instead of using the whole two cups of whole wheat flour, I substitute 1/2 cup of the flour with good quality baking flax meal. I use an 8x8" glass baking dish, preheat the stove on 300 degrees and bake for 25 mins. After that, I eyeball it to get the right moisture.

Absolutely delish!  :)>>>

I cannot believe I haven't reviewed this recipe yet because it is truly amazing! Really, truly, unbelievably good. I don't know how you came up with this recipe, but it makes the most moist, chocolately, perfect brownies, especially with soy dream vanilla ice cream, melted chocolate drizzled all around and some soy whip to top it off.

I served this to a group of meat- and dairy-loving people of all ages and one person even said it was the best brownie she had ever had.

Thank you again for this recipe...I know my family and I will enjoy it for years to come!

very nice recipe :) I recommend mixing the baking powder and flour before adding them to the mix.  these are a wonderful texture. I used all wheat flour, and not nearly as much sugar as this called for. still pretty sweet.  the cocoa amount should really just be a guidline, I would've added more to mine.

I had all the ingredients on hand already so I decided to whip up a batch of these little buggers. I messed up the flour/water mixture first time around and then tried it again. Make sure to mix the flour and water together thoroughly before heating. Mixing it all up got kinda wild especially towards the end there. Once they were in the pan a "buttered" rubber spatula was my best friend. In they end they came out pretty awesome. They are pretty heavy and very delicious I have to say its definitely worth the effort.

YUM! So much better than any other vegan brownie recipe I've ever tried. These have the flaky top and chewy edges that I always loved about non-vegan brownies.
