If anybody here is a former meat eater, I was hoping to get some suggestions about what I should add to my baked beans to give them that signature taste. Thanks!

You could try liquid smoke. That works. I put it in split pea soup and people always think there is meat in it.
I don't know if it would work in baked beans, but I made scalloped potatoes and diced up some Yves brand ham and it really tasted like there was some smoked pork in there. We also "fry" it up for BLTs, and it is great. And cheaper than fake bacon.

yeah, id go w/ the liquid smoke, like SOG said. Iuse it in my split pea soup recipe too!!
If you wanted the "bacon bits" in there, you could make some Vegan Bacon from this site, which uses liquid smoke...its sooo good. Maybe baco's would work as well? those are vegan, tho i have no idea if they really taste like bacon would in beans???

Definitely liquid smoke. Crumble up some tempeh for chunkiness!
